The discovery of Meloidogyne mayaguensis is confirmed in Florida; this is the first report for the continental United States. Meloidogyne mayaguensis is a virulent species that can reproduce on host cultivars bred for nematode resistance. The perineal patterns of M. mayaguensis isolates from Florida show morphological variability and often are similar to M. incognita. Useful morphological characters for the separation of M. mayaguensis from M. incognita from Florida are the male stylet length values (smaller for M. mayaguensis than M. incognita) and J2 tail length values (greater for M. mayaguensis than M. incognita). Leptodactylus validus exhibits an unusual distribution inhabiting Trinidad, Tobago, and the Lesser Antilles, but not the mainland of South America. This distribution is inconsistent with other distribution patterns observed for these islands. Although slight variation in adult morphology has been observed among the island populations, call data suggest the presence of a single species. Calls of Leptodactylus pallidirostris from Venezuela suggested that this taxon might be conspecific with L. validus. The morphological, anatomical and micromorphological features of Saponaria kotschyi Boiss. have been studied on plants collected from Osmangazi University-Meşelik Campus, Eskişehir. S. kotschyi is an endemic species and a new record from Eskişehir. In general, the results obtained from morphological studies were consistent with the description given in the Flora of Turkey, except for the calyx, as the calyx of S. kotschyi flowers not only had glandular hairs but also eglandular hairs. This study presents investigations into the morphological, anatomical and ecological features of Tulipa armena Boiss. var. lycica (Baker) Marais. T. armena var. lycica, an endemic species which was collected from the Eskişehir, Alpu-Bozan plantation area and from Kunduzlar Dam and its environs. The species is a new record for Eskişehir. For morphological studies a description and illustrations of T. armena var. lycica are given. The morphological differences were compared with the Flora of Turkey. Trachystemon orientalis (L.) G.Don (Boraginaceae), which is distributed in various habitats in the Black Sea region, was investigated morphologically and anatomically. The flowering branches, leaves and rhizomes of T. orientalis are used as food. This species is a Euro-Siberian floristic element. The genus Trachystemon D.Don is represented by one species in Turkey. In the morphological study it was observed that the species have a perennial root. The rhizome is blackish and 6-10 cm. The stem is 25-50 cm tall and erect. A Morphological And Anatomical Study On Endemic Alkanna Haussknechtii Bornm. (Boraginaceae), Critically Endangered In Turkey, Öznur Ergen Akçi̇n, Nezahat Kandemi̇r, Arzu Cansaran

Alkanna haussknechtii Bornm., which occurs only in the vicinity of Amasya, is critically endangered. The morphological and anatomical properties of the species, an endemic plant of the Irano-Turanian phytogeographic region, were investigated. The root is perennial. The leaves are ecvifacial and have stomata cells that are anisocytic and anomocytic. The stomata index is 18.048 on the upper epidermis and 15.428 on the lower epidermis.

Morphological And Karyological Characteristics Of Nannospalax Ehrenbergi (Nehring, 1898) (Rodentia: Spalacidae) From Hatay Province, Turkey, Yüksel Coşkun

The material of 31 specimens of Nannospalax ehrenbergi was collected from 11 different localities in the Hatay region in south Anatolia. The specimens were studied in respect to their morphological and karyological characteristics in detail. Some taxonomic characteristics and measurements of the body and skull were investigated. The data obtained from the specimens were compared with the results of previously published accounts and with samples collected from more than 16 other localities in Turkey, Israel, Jordan and Egypt. Faunistic And Morphological Studies On Ciliates (Protozoa, Ciliophora) From A Small Pond, With Responses Of Ciliate Populations To Changing Environmental Conditions, Naci̇ye Gülkiz Şenler, İsmai̇l Yildiz

Sixty-nine ciliate species were identified in 19 samples from a small pond covered by Lemna minor in Van, Turkey. Statistical analysis was employed to examine the relationships between ciliates and the physical and biological parameters. Total ciliate abundance appears to be related mainly with physical and biological factors such as the dissolved oxygen in the bottom layer and the volume of Lemna and temperature in the surface layer. Some species were investigated in detail using live observation, silver impregnation, and morphometry.

Thirty adult (16 males 14 females) Rana bedriagae caralitana specimens were investigated morphologically. According to results of the morphological analysis, the Kırkgöz (Antalya), Taşkesiği (Korkuteli/Antalya) and Girdev Plateau (Elmalı/Antalya) populations were included in Rana bedriagae caralitana. Furthermore, the distribution range of R. b. caralitana was extended to the northern part of the west Mediterranean Region.

The morphology of the venom apparatus of the spider Agelena labyrinthica was studied using scanning electron microscopy. The venom apparatus, situated in the anterior of the prosoma, is composed of a pair of chelicerae and venom glands. Each chelicera consists of two parts, a stout basal segment covered by hair, and a movable articulated fang. There are regular, parallel fine grooves on the surface of the cheliceral fang. The morphometric measurements of 10 taxonomically important characters, and the coloration features of the 8 subspecies of Mertensiella luschani were investigated and statistical analyses were carried out. The types and rates of acrosome and other (head, mid-piece and tail) abnormal spermatozoon types were determined by the Spermac® staining technique. Semen from 5 stray tom cats under the same management conditions was used. Semen collection was performed under general anesthesia by electro-ejaculator once a week for 5 weeks. After ejaculation the semen was diluted by 100 µl of 0.9% NaCl solution and stained with Spermac® stain for morphological evaluation. The morphological criteria were acrosome, other (head, mid-piece and tail) and total morphological defect rates, and were 9.20 ± 2.55%, 9.20 ± 3.49% and 18.40 ± 4.79%, respectively. It …
