Investigation Of Some Biological Characteristics Of The Silver Crucian Carp, Carassius Gibelio (Bloch 1782) Population In Lake Eğirdir, İsmet Balik, Remzi̇ye Özkök, Hidir Çubuk, Rahmi̇ Uysal

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Biological characteristics such as sex, age and length compositions, growth, condition factor, reproduction, mortality and exploitation rates of the silver crucian carp, Carassius gibelio (Bloch 1782), population in Lake Eğirdir were investigated between March 2001 and February 2002. According to the 616 specimens ranged in age groups from I to VI, the percentages of male and female individuals in the population were 53.4% and 46.6%, respectively. The fork lengths of the samples ranged from 9 to 33 cm. Allometric growth was also determined among the lengths and weights of both sexes. Incremental growth rates in length and weight for both …

Effects Of Different Diets On The Growth Performance, Gonad Development And Body Composition At First Sexual Maturity Of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Devri̇m Memi̇ş, Hüseyi̇n Gün

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss with an initial mean weight of 174 g (1+ year old) were fed on 3 different commercial diets (1 extruded pellet and 2 steam pellet) in the same environmental conditions until their first spawning. Changes in growth performance (weight gain, condition factor, specific growth rate and feed conversion rate), gonadosomatic index (GSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI) and body composition (protein, lipid, ash and dry matter) were investigated. The mean weight gain and condition factor for fish fed the extruded diet was significantly greater than for those fed the steam pellet diets (P < 0.05 ). There were no significant differences in specific growth rate, mean length increments and feed conversion rate among the groups, although the feed conversion rate for the extruded diet was slightly lower than the others. The HSI of the group fed an extruded diet was significantly greater than those of the others ( P < 0.05 ). The GSI values of female and male fish at the end of the study (October) did not differ significantly among the groups. Similarly, diet had no significant effects on the muscle composition of the trial fish, except that the muscle lipid of the group fed the extruded diet was significantly higher than those of the other groups (P < 0.05).

Effects Of Spatially Localized And Dispersed Patterns Of Feed Distribution On The Growth, Size Dispersion And Feed Conversion Ratio Of The African Catfish (Clarias Gariepinus), Feri̇t Rad, Gülderen Kurt, A. Sezai̇ Bozaoğlu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effects of spatially localized and spatially dispersed feeding patterns on the growth, size distribution and feed conversion ratio of the African catfish were investigated. Two groups of fish with an initial weight of 82.16 ± 4.80 and 82.40 ± 3.90 g were subjected to point source and scatter feeding patterns, respectively, for 2 months. Scatter fed fish reached a final mean weight of 192.69 ± 6.60 g while the mean final weight of point source fed fish was 169.67 ± 6.80 g ( P < 0.05). The specific growth rates of scatter and point source fed fish were 1.51% day^{-1} and 1.29% day^{-1}, respectively. The feed conversion ratio of scatter fed fish was 1.86 and that of point source fed fish was 2.29. The difference between the coefficient of size variation for scatter and point source fed fish was statistically insignificant (P > 0.05). However, the final size distribution curve for the scatter fed group showed a more …

Laboratory and greenhouse experiments were conducted to assess the efficacy of Eucalyptus citriodora Hook., Ipomoea carnea Jacq., Cuminum cyminum L., Allium sativum L. and Hyoscyamus muticus L. leaf extracts, and of Streptomyces exfoliatus (Waksman & Curtis) Waksman & Henrici (S) and Trichoderma harzianum Rifai (T) in controlling Botrytis fabae, which causes chocolate spot disease in the faba bean. Laboratory studies supported the use of leaf extracts of E. citriodora (Ex. 1) and I. carnea (Ex. 2) in preference to other extracts for controlling the mycelial growth of B. fabae. In addition, the mixture S + T was the best of …

This study was carried out to determine the growth, survival rate and some body measurements until weaning of lambs produced by the in vitro production (IVP) method in comparison with those of lambs produced by artificial insemination. The lambs in the experimental group were produced by the transfer of IVP embryos developed to the blastocyst stage after the in vitro maturation and fertilisation of oocytes obtained from the ovaries of slaughtered ewes. The results of this study showed that the lambs produced by the IVP technique had a higher growth rate until weaning than did the lambs in the control …
