Quality Of Hermetically Packaged Nonfat Dry Milk In Long-Term Storage, Michelle A. Lloyd, Lynn V. Ogden, Oscar A. Pike

Faculty Publications

Over the past few decades, nonfat dry milk (NFDM) has been retail-packaged for long-term storage in No. 10 cans under reduced oxygen concentrations for use in emergency situations. Little information is available concerning the quality of NFDM held in such conditions for prolonged storage periods. The objective of this research was to evaluate the quality attributes of NFDM in hermetically sealed cans with reduced oxygen levels held in long-term storage. Twenty samples of regular and instant NFDM (representing 9 brands) stored up to 29 years at ambient conditions were obtained from 14 sources. Samples were evaluated for headspace oxygen, can …

The research results indicate that the dairy industry has important problems, such as an insufficient and low quality milk supply, and poor hygiene and marketing. In particular, a large number of small-and medium-sized milk processors face extensive hygiene and marketing problems. …

Investigation Of Brucella Infection In Milk Collected From Burdur Province, Hülya Türütoğlu, Bülent Mutluer, Yavuz Uysal

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, we aimed to investigate the regional profile of bovine and ovine Brucellosis in Burdur by isolating Brucella spp. in milk and by detecting antibodies to Brucellae in milk samples. For this purpose, 404 milk samples from 101 cows and 226 milk samples from 113 ewes located in 14 different areas of Burdur were collected. The samples were examined by bacteriological and serological methods. Brucella spp. were not isolated from the milk samples. Positive results by the milk ring test (MRT) were found in 12 (3%) cow milk samples and in 40 (17.7%) ewe milk samples. Seropositivity in …
