Food Items And Feeding Rates For Wild Whooping Crane Colts In Wood Buffalo National Park, Douglas G. Bergeson, Mark Bradley, Geoffrey L. Holroyd

Proceedings of the North American Crane Workshop

Food habits of 5 whooping crane (Orus americana) colts in 4 nest ponds were recorded in the days following hatching in Wood Buffalo National Park (WBNP). In total, 93 hours of observations were made from blinds that were 60-80 m away from the nest. Spotting scopes and binoculars were used to identify food items. The adults were observed bringing the following items to the colts: adult dragonflies (Libellula sp., and Aeshna sp.), fish (Culaea inconstans), diving beetles (Rhantus binotatus, Acilius semisulcatus, Oraphoderus occidentalis, and Dytiscus alaskanus), damselflies (Enallagma sp., and Lestes sp.), …

An Application Of Linear Approximation Of Almost Ideal Demand System: Data From Erzurum Central District, Fahri̇ Yavuz, Mustafa Baydemi̇r Jan 2001

An Application Of Linear Approximation Of Almost Ideal Demand System: Data From Erzurum Central District, Fahri̇ Yavuz, Mustafa Baydemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, a food demand analysis of Erzurum central district was conducted. This study differs from previous ones by the use of current data and a new model. Various elasticities computed in this study might be used in the analysis of food consumption policies. The cross-sectional and time series data used were collected by surveying 30 families once every three months from July 1995 to April 1997. Data from a total of 240 families were used to divide the families into high and low income groups. A demand analysis was done using LA/AIDS for five food groups (cereal, vegetable, …

Development Of A Solid Phase Micro-Extraction-Gas Chromatographic Method For The Analysis Of Volatile Components In Vanilla Extracts And Flavourings, Tomislav Sostaric

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

Vanilla is a very important flavouring agent, it is used as a major ingredient in a number of food products. The taste and aroma results from a specific blend of components present in the extract. There are over 170 volatile components, which all contribute to the flavour of the extract. These volatile components can be present in trace amounts or in relatively high concentrations. The range and concentration of volatile components is somewhat characteristic of the vanilla extract and its origin. Due to the high cost and low availability of natural extract, nature-identical and synthetic flavourings are often used to …
