Native Vegetation Handbook For The Shire Of Lake Grace, Bec Ryan

Bulletins 4000 -

This handbook provides land managers with information relating to the natural resources of the Shire of Lake Grace, including the landscape, geology, soils, drainage systems, native flora and fauna. Information about native flora and vegetation has been drawn from a variety of sources, including surveys that estimated the distribution of plan communities prior to clearing, recent surveys of privately owned remnants, herbarium collections, surveys of nature reserves and roadside surveys. Some of the problems relating to the management of these resources within the shire and ideas and community initiatives to solve these problems are also discussed. It is hoped that …

Variation In Competitive Abilities Of Plants And Microbes For Specific Amino Acids, David A. Lipson, Ted K. Raab, Steven K. Schmidt, Russ K. Monson Jan 1999

Variation In Competitive Abilities Of Plants And Microbes For Specific Amino Acids, David A. Lipson, Ted K. Raab, Steven K. Schmidt, Russ K. Monson

Ted K. Raab

Microbes are assumed to possess strong competitive advantages over plants for uptake of nutrients from the soil. The finding that non-mycorrhizal plants can obtain a significant fraction of their N requirement from soil amino acids contradicts this assumption. The amino acid glycine (Gly) has been used as a model amino acid in many recent studies. Our preliminary studies showed that Gly was a poor substrate for microbial growth compared to other amino acids. We tested the hypothesis that the alpine sedge Kobresia myosuroides competes better for Gly than for other amino acids because of decreased microbial demand for this compound. …

G99-1395 Soybean Seeding Rates, Roger Wesley Elmore, James E. Specht Jan 1999

G99-1395 Soybean Seeding Rates, Roger Wesley Elmore, James E. Specht

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Recommended soybean seeding rates, stand assessment and replanting rates based on Nebraska field research are addressed in this NebGuide. The soybean stand looked horrible late that May. The field had a good seed bed at planting, but rain after planting crusted the soil over the seed furrows. Rain was in the short-term forecast. All other row crops were planted and looked fine, but this field concerned the producer.
