Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, 30 Budgerigars ( Melopsittacus undulatus) with Knemidocoptes pilae infection were treated with a spot-on application of moxidectin (Cydectin® Injection For Cattle) at a dose of 1 mg (0.1 ml Cydectin) per bird. This application was given once to 10 birds and twice at 10 days intervals to 20 birds. Clinical signs in all birds of both groups disappeared 30-40 days after treatment. No side effects were seen.

Effects Of Megestrol Acetate Treatment On Dogs With Prolonged Estrus, Ayhan Baştan, Seli̇m Aslan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A total of 22 dogs of different breeds with persistent estrus, between the ages of 1.5 and 6, were used. Diagnoses were made by anamnesis, general examination and vaginal smear. Vulvar edema, colour and volume of vaginal discharge, convolution of the mucosa and volume of secretion were recorded before and after treatment. Dogs were treated with 25 mg megestrol acetate (Niagestine, 25 mg/ml, Novo). Clinical manifestations disappeared within 3-7 days. Vaginal discharge ceased in 3.5±2.5 days and vulvar edema ceased in 3.5±1.6 days. In only one dog, the treatment was not effective after 15 days. The vulva was still swollen …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this trial based on the reduction of the egg output and on the evaluation of results from larval/egg differentiation, moxidectin (Cydectin, 1% injectable moxidectin) administrated subcutaneously at a dose of 0.2 mg kgbw -1 was found effective on the gastrointestinal nematodes in naturally infected lambs (8 female and 7 male treatment; 8 female and 7 male control) harbored Haemonchus spp, Ostertagia spp, Trichostrongylus spp and Nematodirus spp and in naturally infected female calves (20 treatment and 10 control) harbored Haemonchus spp, Ostertagia spp, Trichostrongylus spp, Bunostomum sppand Cooperia spp.The efficacy was 100% on day +7, 99.9% on day +14 …

Fifty two myiasis cases were detected throughout the study. Forty seven (90.38%) and 5 (9.62%) of the cases were determined in sheep and cows respectively, no myiasis case was encountered in goats. Twenty two (42.32%) of the cases were seen in June during 1994 and 1995, 10 (19.23%) in May, 9 (17.31%) in July, 8 (15.38%) in September and 3 (5.77%) in August. Efficacy Of Moxidectin Against Strongylin Nematodes In Naturally Infected Horses, Aynur Gülanber, Erkut Tüzer, Ayşen Gargili, Müfit Toparlak, İlker Efi̇l, Vedat Keleş, Meltem Ulutaş

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Twenty naturally infected horses were divided into two groups (10 control and 10 experimental) according to EPG values. An injectable formulation of moxidectin, in a dose of 0.3 mg/kg, was given to the horses orally in jam syrup. The evaluation of drug efficacy was based on EPG values. The same dose of the drug was applied to an additional 25 horses to test for side effects. The drug was found to be highly effective (100%) against strongylin parasites on days 7, 14. and 21. No side effects were observed.

The Effects Of Gamma Irradiation And Calcium Treatment On The Ultrastructure Of Apples And Pears, E. Kovacs, A. Keresztes, J. Kovacs Jan 1988

The Effects Of Gamma Irradiation And Calcium Treatment On The Ultrastructure Of Apples And Pears, E. Kovacs, A. Keresztes, J. Kovacs

Food Structure

The post-storage quality of fruits depends on the ultrastructure of the outer tissues and on the fruit mineral composition (mostly on calcium). Pectins and their bonds with calcium play a central role in the tissues during ripening.

During senescence the middle lamella disappears from the cell walls, the fruits become soft and cell wall reticulation can be seen. There are changes within the cells too; plasmalemma separates from the wall, tonoplast from the cytoplasm, and plastids, mitochondria and nuclei are disorganized.

The ultrastructure of the skin and flesh of apples and pears were studied as a function of treatments (calcium, …
