Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

The objective of this study was to determine the standardized ileal digestible (SID) Lys requirement for growth and carcass performance of 225- to 280-lb finishing pigs. A total of 253 pigs (DNA 600 × 241, initially 224.9 lb BW) were used in a 23-d trial. Pens were blocked by BW and were randomly assigned to diets with 7 or 8 pigs per pen and 8 pens per treatment in a randomized complete block design. Diets were corn and soybean meal-based and fed in meal form. Dietary treatments consisted of 0.45, 0.55, 0.65, or 0.75% SID Lys ...

A total of 1,130 barrows and gilts (PIC; 359 × Camborough, initial pen average BW of 53.2 ± 1.61 lb) were used in a 111-d growth trial to determine the standardized total tract digestible (STTD) P requirement of growing-finishing pigs from 53 to 287 lb. Pens of pigs were randomly assigned to 1 of 6 dietary treatments in a randomized complete block design with BW as a blocking factor. There were 7 replicate pens per treatment and 26 to 27 pigs per pen (at least 13 barrows and gilts per pen). The experimental diets were corn-soybean meal-based and were ...

Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

A total of 1,089 pigs (PIC 280 ×1050; initially 82.2 lb) were used in a 105-d experiment to determine the effects of increasing added Cu from either CuSO4 alone or a 50/50 blend of CuSO4 and Cu-AA (Availa®-Cu, Zinpro Corporation, Eden Prairie, MN) on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and economics of finishing pigs. All 6 dietary treatments contained 17 ppm Cu from CuSO4 from the trace mineral premix. Additional treatment diets contained added CuSO4 to provide 70 and 130 ppm total Cu or a 50/50 blend of added Cu from CuSO ...

Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

A total of 560 nursery pigs were used in 2 experiments to evaluate the effects of increasing dietary standardized ileal digestible (SID) Isoleucine:Lysine (Ile:Lys) ratio on growth performance. In Exp. 1, 280 pigs (PIC 327 × 1050, initially 14.9 lb BW) were fed experimental diets for 12 d with 8 replications and 5 pigs per pen. In Exp. 2, 280 pigs (DNA Genetics Line 600 × Line 241, initially 13.3 lb BW) were fed experimental diets for 18 d with 8 replications and 5 pigs per pen. In both experiments, pens were allotted to 1 of 7 dietary ...

Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

A total of 300 nursery pigs (PIC 327 × 1050, initially 14.8 lb BW) were used in a 28-d growth trial to evaluate the effects of increasing dietary standardized ileal digestible (SID) lysine (Lys) on nursery pig growth performance. Pigs were weaned at approximately 21 d of age and allotted to the pens according to BW and gender. A common starter diet was fed for 6 d, then pens were allotted to 1 of 6 dietary treatments in a completely randomized design. Experimental diets were fed for 14 d followed by a common diet for 14 d. The 6 dietary ...
