Protein is one of the most expensive nutrients in poultry diets. In an effort to minimize feed costs, protein digestion and utilization by the animal must be carried out as efficiently as possible. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary AA density and exogenous protease inclusion on growth performance and AA digestibility in broilers. Treatments consisted of a 2 × 4 factorial design with main effects of commercial protease (with or without) and digestible Lys (1.12, 1.15, 1.18, or 1.21%). A total of 1,827 pigs (L337 × 1050, PIC; initially 215.8 ± 2.5 lb) were used to evaluate the effects of increasing soybean meal (SBM) in corn-DDGS-based diets on growth performance of late finishing pigs. Pens were blocked by BW and randomly assigned to 1 of 5 dietary treatments with 14 replications per treatment. Experimental diets were corn-based with 25% DDGS. Soybean meal levels increased from 0 to 16% in 4% increments replacing added feed grade AA. Pens of pigs were weighed to evaluate ADG, ADFI, and F/G. A total of 1,793 pigs (L337 × 1050, PIC, Hendersonville, TN; initially 231.2 ± 2.4 lb) were used to evaluate the effects of increasing soybean meal in corn-based diets on growth performance of late finishing pigs. Pens of pigs were blocked by initial weight and randomly assigned to 1 of 5 dietary treatments with 22 to 27 pigs per pen and 12 to 14 pens per treatment. Experimental diets were corn-based, formulated to 0.70% SID Lys, and contained varying amounts of feed grade AA to meet or exceed requirement estimates. At hatch, 360 one-d old Cobb500 male broilers were placed in battery cages to determine the effect of soybean meal (SBM) from different Midwest soybean varieties on growth performance of broilers. There were 6 broilers per cage and 15 replicates per treatment. Dietary treatments cons0isted of 1 of 4 soybean sources varying in quality determined by crude protein (CP) content and processed into SBM. Pelleting swine feed and the use of crystalline amino acids and by-product ingredients can potentially create ideal conditions that further facilitate the Maillard browning reaction. A total of 1,789 pigs (337 × 1050, PIC; initial BW 240.0 ± 2.51 lb) were used to determine the effects of increasing L-Lys-HCl and AA ratios on performance of late finishing pigs fed diets without DDGS. The study used 2 groups of pigs and each study lasted 18 and 27 d, respectively.
