An integrated approach to the study of taxa of the genus Hypericum occurring in Sicily is proposed. The results of morphological, biochemical, and molecular analyses are combined to better assess the relationships between the species investigated and test the suitability of DNA barcoding technique in the discrimination of these taxa. For the name Hypericum aegypticum subsp. webbii (Spach) N. Robson a lectotype is designated. For Hypericum triquetrifolium Turra a lectotype and a supporting epitype are designated. Meyer separated Thlaspi into 12 genera, specifically using the seed-coat anatomy. The PHANTASTICA (PHAN) gene has a significant role in the formation of plant organs adaxial?abaxial polarity. In the present study the PHAN gene was identified in Saintpaulia for the first time using PCR. To determine the expression pattern of the PHAN gene, gene expression was compared at 3 developmental stages using real time PCR. The rol oncogenes of Agrobacterium rhizogenes enhance the production of medicinally important compounds in plants and provide a first barrier against the overproduction of reactive oxygen species during biotic and abiotic stress. This study was designed to evaluate the expression of genes involved in biosynthetic pathways and their impact on metabolic contents and environmental stress tolerance in regenerated Ajuga bracteosa Wall. ex Benth. After successful transformation, real-time quantitative PCR confirmed the increased expression (1.94-6.59-fold) of HMGR, HDS, FDS, PAL, and TTG1 genes in transgenic lines. We studied the application of the neglected name Centaurea leucolepis DC., concluding, by examination of the literature and original material, that the associated taxon is C. corensis Vals. et Filig., endemic to Campania region (southern Italy) and introduced into Sardinia. The name by Candolle is legitimate and it is here lectotypified by a specimen kept at G. An investigation was carried out to evaluate the impact of the allelopathic effect of Alstonia scholaris leaf extract on morphoanatomical and physiological characteristics of 5 wheat lines. Three extract dilutions were prepared, viz. 0 (control), 15 and 30% of the aqueous extract and sprayed on wheat lines (3094, 5066, M5082, 7076 and A2011) at 15-day intervals until maturity from November 2017 to May 2018. All wheat lines responded differently to an allelochemical extract of A. scholaris. This study researched atmospheric pollen from Mersin Province using the volumetric method between in 2016 and 2017. The daily, weekly, monthly, and annual distribution of the pollen obtained during the study was identified. The relationship between pollen and meteorological factors was researched using Spearman?s rho analysis. During the two-year study, 32,336 pollen grains/m3 from 40 different taxa [22 trees, 1 grass (Poaceae), and 17 other weeds] were identified. Airborne pollen grains in Aydın, an important city for agriculture and tourism in the western part of Turkey, were studied for 2 years (2014 and 2015) using the volumetric method. During a 2-year study conducted in the city center, an average of 19,226 pollen grains belonging to 46 taxa were detected. Among these detected taxa, 29 (average 73.97%) belonged to arboreal plants and 17 (average 24.95%) to nonarboreal plants. The highest pollen concentrations belonged to Olea europaea (21.02%), Quercus (15.23%), Poaceae (11.89%), Pinaceae (11.47%), Cupressaceae/Taxaceae (11.11%), Platanus(4.12%), Morus (3.83%), and Urticaceae (3.58%), which were considered to be the dominant species. …

The Far Eastern weed Artemisia verlotiorum was formerly reported from Lebanon. However, for a number of reasons this record was questionable. Nutlets of 13 taxa of subfamily Cyperoideae (Cyperaceae) from Egypt were investigated using light and scanning electron microscopes to ascertain the taxonomic utility of the nutlet in corroborating and elaborating on distinctions between closely related genera and species. The studied taxa included representatives of tribes Fuireneae, Cypereae, Cariceae, Abildgaardieae and Schoeneae. Nutlet shape, size, color, surface, epidermal cell shape, anticlinal boundaries, outer periclinal cell wall and relief of outer cell walls were provided. Understanding disjunct distribution patterns in the Balkan Peninsula and Anatolia is important in order to reconstruct robust biogeographical hypotheses. This is instrumental in understanding the recolonization patterns of Europe during the Quaternary glaciation/interglaciation periods and the potential role of Anatolia as a refugium. Characteristic features of seed and testa cells in 13 species of Allium, representing its five recognized sections, Compactoprason, Megaloprason, Procerallium, Decipientia and Pseudoprason were studied using both stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. The identified characters, such as seed shape, alignment and shape of testa cells, features of outer cell walls, verruca type, density of verrucae and granules, seed size as well as cell wall undulations were evaluated statistically. This study evaluated the phytoplankton communities based on functional groups to obtain information about the water quality of Lake İznik, Turkey. The phytoplankton consisted of 103 taxa, classified in 12 phytoplankton functional groups (PFGs), with dominancy of 5 species, Chrysosporum ovalisporum, Dolichospermum mendotae, Planktothrix rubescens, Fragilaria capucina and Mougeotia sp. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') was calculated and results ranged between 0.41 and 2.47. Astragalus aybarsii H. Duman & Aytaç (Fabaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Kastamonu province (Turkey). The new species grows in open areas of Pinus brutia Ten. forests. Also, some notes on the ecology, biogeography, conservation status and the pollen morphological and leaflet micromorphological features of the new species are presented. The geographical distribution of this new species and its allied species is mapped.

In this study, the synopsis of the taxa of the genus Trigonella in Turkey is presented. It is represented with 34 taxa in Turkey. The name of Trigonella coelesyriaca was misspelled to Flora of Turkey and the correct name of this species, Trigonella caelesyriaca, was given in this study. The endemic Trigonella raphanina has been reduced to synonym of T. cassia and T. balansae is reduced to synonym of T. corniculata. In addition, T. spruneriana var. sibthorpii is reevaluated as a distinct species. Lectotypification was designated for T. capitata, T. spruneriana and T. velutina. A new symbiotic species from genus Termitomyces, is proposed here supported by morphological features and molecular evidence. The species is characterized by an annual growth, pileus with velar remnants, ruptured margins, pubescent stipe with short pseudorhiza, basidia varying in wall thickness, polymorphic cheilo- and pleurocystidia as well as two types of pileipellis hyphae. Sequences of nr ITS and LSU regions of newly reported species nested as a separate taxon in both phylogenetic analyses of current study.
