Trial 87NO08
All treatments except Combine + Oil yielded significantly better than the control. Control of wild oats with Grasp was superior to many other treatments and this was reflected in the yield.
Trial 87N009
All treatments yielded significantly better than the control however there was no difference between herbicides, rates of use or additives. The exception being 0.75 L Hoegrass +WA which yielded significantly less than Grasp + oil.

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
3.1 Growth of doublegees under summer irrigation. (87A40)
The weevil, Perapion antiquum is a potential biological control agent of doublegee. However, it exhibits large population crashes during the summer months in the summer-dry areas of the Western Caped of South Africa, where it is native. It has been suggested that one means of successfully establishing Perapion in Western Australia could be to maintain populations in 'oases' over the summer months. The aim of this experiment was to determine how readily doublegee could be maintained in a non-senescent phase under irrigated and shaded conditions.

Effect Of Different Chemical Treatments On Capeweed Control And Crop Yield., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner
Effect Of Different Chemical Treatments On Capeweed Control And Crop Yield., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Trial 87WH60
Control of capweed was obtained using post-emergence in-crop herbicides. Good control was on most of the treatments applied before seeding.
Most products showed good ryegrass control are not usually effective, assume some other factor operating. Treatment usually associated with good ryegrass control have higher ryegrass densities than the treatments using herbicides with only broadleaved variety.
Although large reductions in density of silvergrass were obtained none was significantly better than the unsprayed. Some treatments particularly those favouring grass dominance allowed silvergrass density to build up.
Bromegrass appears to be very sensitive to competition from capeweed. Where there was high …

Control Of Capeweed Prior To Sowing Crop., J. R. Pierce, B. J. Rayner
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
All treatments gave significant yield benefits over the untreated. Mixtures containing diuron did not cause any significant crop damage although yields on three of the treatments using 1.5 L/ha were low despite the good weed control.

Effect Of Time Of Spraying Prior To Seeding For Capeweed Control., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner
Effect Of Time Of Spraying Prior To Seeding For Capeweed Control., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Trial 87WH61
Significant yield increases were obtained by applying chemicals pre-sowing to control capeweed. Time of spraying also had a significant effect on crop yield. Best yields were obtained from the treatment four weeks before seeding.
Good capeweed control (four weeks before seeding) may have been due to the condition of the weeds. Prior to spraying 50 mm of rain was recorded and may have freshened up the capeweed making it more susceptible to the chemical.
Control Of Peas And Lupins In Oats, J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner
Control Of Peas And Lupins In Oats, J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Trial 87A30
All lupin treatments satisfactory.
Treaments 4, 8 and 9, ie Dicamba 500 ml and both treatments with diuron + 2,4-D amine would not control peas sufficiently to prevent rejection of line of oats. Peas are more difficult to control.

Trial 87NO107
Plant counts for soursob and Four O'clock will be more accurate when counts taken after the break of 1988 season to determine the bulb production from last season.
Ally gave good control of doublegee. Isoproturon or mixtures with Isoproturon also gave good doublegee control. Logran & Glean were weak on doublegee.

Chemical Control Of Skeleton Weed., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Trial PE17
Tordon 50 D & Lontrel L appear to be the only chemicals that will give effective reduction in the density of skeleton weed. However both these chemicals also removed all other broadleaved weeds present (capeweed, clover and flatweed), leaving the treated areas grass dominant.
Control Of Saffron Thistle In Pasture Using Goats., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner
Control Of Saffron Thistle In Pasture Using Goats., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Trial 85TS27 / 87TS27
Saffron thistle seedling densities remained relatively constant during the first two years of the trial, irrespective of the grazing treatments' effectiveness. However on the grazing treatments where goats were preventing seed formation, once the bulk of dormant seeds had been depleted, seedling density started to decline.

Trial 87ME119 - Saffron thistle, seed set control.
Trial 87TS38 - Saffron thistle control (seed set)
Trial 87JE42 - Seed set control in Saffron thistle.
All treatments had some measure of reducing seed production. Best control was obtained by applying chemicals just at or prior to flowering.
