Ecology Of Spring Fed Salt-Marshes, Eric George Bolen
Ecology Of Spring Fed Salt-Marshes, Eric George Bolen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Any marsh is a distinctive land-form of varied interest. To the agriculturist it is wasteland to be reclaimed; to the naturalist, a habitat of aesthetic value. To the ecologist, however, a marsh represents a complexity of vegetation under the influences of many and often inseparable factors. It becomes a place of challenging study.
Ecology Of Plant Distribution On The Salt-Deserts Of Utah, Dillard H. Gates
Ecology Of Plant Distribution On The Salt-Deserts Of Utah, Dillard H. Gates
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The reciprocal effects of vegetation and soils have long been a subject of speculation and conjecture. In the management of any natural land area the problem of interpreting vegetational expression is especially important. The effects of native vegetation on soils and the effects of the soil on the vegetation have been studied and observed for many years. The arid-desert range lands have been studied least and as a result are not well understood.
As human populations increase there will be additional need for agricultural production, and these lands may be put to higher use, perhaps even to irrigated crop production. …
The Cinnamon Teal (Anas Cyanoptera Vieillot): Its Life History, Ecology, And Management, Howard E. Spencer Jr.
The Cinnamon Teal (Anas Cyanoptera Vieillot): Its Life History, Ecology, And Management, Howard E. Spencer Jr.
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
It takes but a perusal of literature pertaining to waterfowl to realize the paucity of information regarding the Cinnamon Teal. The Redhead, Blue-winged Teal, and Canvasback have all been exhaustively studied by Low (1941). Bennett (1938), and Hochbaum (1944), respectively; and other species are now receiving attention from other workers. In order to help round out these studies of particular species, the writer undertook the project of a detailed study of the life history, ecology, and management of the Cinnamon Teal.
Studies In The Life History And Ecology Of The American Pintail (Anas Acuta Tzitzihoa Vieliot) In Utah, Robert W. Fuller
Studies In The Life History And Ecology Of The American Pintail (Anas Acuta Tzitzihoa Vieliot) In Utah, Robert W. Fuller
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Wildlife management has been defined as lithe manipulation of wild populations of vertebrate animals in their relation to man and his interests" Wildlife management, then, could not exist in the absence ot either wildlife or humans. Converting this idea to the waterfowl situation, we can say that there are no waterfowl problems other than as they exist in the minds of men. (Wil1s, 1951) These words by the Chief of the IllinoIs Natural History Survey precede a plea for fundamental facts and a basic understanding of waterfowl upon which sound management can in turn be based. l"or only through sound …
A Taxonomic And Ecological Study Of Acridinae Of Utah (Orthoptera-Locustidae), Herald C. Bennion
A Taxonomic And Ecological Study Of Acridinae Of Utah (Orthoptera-Locustidae), Herald C. Bennion
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Orthoptera, especially the family Locustidae, is one of the most important and most interesting orders of insects in the state of Utah. It includes a polyphagus group of great economic importance in the state. The topography and climate of Utah varies from forested alpine slopes to hot arid desert wastes, several life zones being represented. This great variation from desert to alpine in Utah presents a rather unique region for taxonomic and ecological studies of the Orthoptera.
The most familiar representatives of the insect order Orthoptera are the long-horned grasshoppers, locusts, crickets, katydids, and cockroaches. Orthoptera are characterized by Comstock …
