Pb1533-Nipple Watering Systems For Broilers, The University Of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service
Pb1533-Nipple Watering Systems For Broilers, The University Of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service
Animals/Livestock
Nipple watering systems for broilers have become very popular in recent years. This is mainly because these systems save labor by eliminating the chore of cleaning waterers. Although labor is greatly reduced with nipple watering systems, this does not mean that they require less management. In fact, nipple waterers demand more time, knowledge and effort to operate properly than do open systems. Problems caused by insufficient or improper management of nipple watering systems can have a serious impact on broiler performance.
Chlorophyll Fluorescence As A Measure Of Ozone Induced Stress, Jerry L. Faulkner
Chlorophyll Fluorescence As A Measure Of Ozone Induced Stress, Jerry L. Faulkner
Doctoral Dissertations
Chlorophyll fluorescence is a nondestructive, intrinsic probe of photosynthesis. It has been used in a variety of physiological and environmental research. This study attempted to investigate the usefulness of chlorophyll fluorescence as a monitor of ozone induced stress in Quercus rubra L.
Chlorophyll fluorescence measurements were taken from mature trees and seedlings in open top chambers located at the Tennessee Valley Authority Air Pollution Research Facility at Norris, Tennessee. Chambers reflected one of three ozone concentration treatments: sub-ambient, ambient, or twice ambient. Spring leaf expansion was also measured as was spring and autumn chlorophyll content of leaves from mature trees. …
Sp291-A-Growing Vegetable Transplants For Home Gardens, The University Of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service
Sp291-A-Growing Vegetable Transplants For Home Gardens, The University Of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service
Home Garden, Lawn, and Landscape
Some of the most frequently grown and productive vegetables are commonly set into the garden as transplants. These include tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, headlettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and brussels sprouts. Other vegetables that are some times set as trans plants include kohlrabi, can ta loupe, watermelon, summer squash, okra and cucumbers.
There are several advantages to using trans plants rather than direct seeding. Even more advantages can be realized from pro duc ing your own transplants.
Transplants allow you to replace early-harvested vegetables immediately and to produce an oth er crop quickly. Yield losses from poor ger mi na tion are …
Interaction With Choline And Pantothenic Acid With Carnitine In Humans And Rodents, James William Daily Iii
Interaction With Choline And Pantothenic Acid With Carnitine In Humans And Rodents, James William Daily Iii
Masters Theses
It had been shown previous to this research that supplementation with choline and pantothenic acid results in reduced plasma concentrations and urinary excretion of carnitine in adult humans. This research demonstrated similar effects in younger human subjects and developed an animal model for future study of the interaction of choline and pantothenic acid with carnitine.
Rats were first used as an animal model but neither choline, pantothenic acid, nor both combined had any effect on urinary or plasma carnitine concentration. It was concluded that rats were not an acceptable model, possibly because of the high choline oxidase activity present in …

Black Bear Habitat Use In Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Frank Teunissen Van Manen
Black Bear Habitat Use In Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Frank Teunissen Van Manen
Doctoral Dissertations
I used telemetry locations of American black bears (Ursus americanus), collected in Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) from 1976 to 1982 , to evaluate home ranges, movements, and habitat use. Annual home range estimates averaged 7.6 km2 (SD = 7. 1) for females and 48.5 km2 (SD = 2 1 . 1) for males. For both sexes, fall ranges were larger than summer ranges and shifts occurred between summer and fall centers of activity. Annual and seasonal changes in spatial use of black bears are largely explained by changing activity and movement patterns in response to variation …
The Pilot-Reintroduction Of Red Wolves In Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gregory T. M. Schildwachter
The Pilot-Reintroduction Of Red Wolves In Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gregory T. M. Schildwachter
Masters Theses
Reintroduction projects are complex; this project attempted to further management and research aspects regarding reintroduction of the red wolf. The management goal was to assess the feasibility of reestablishing the red wolf in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in TN and NC. The research goal comprised 2 objectives: 1) to assess the potential for physical interaction between 4 reintroduced red wolves (1 adult pair and 2 juvenile females) and 6 resident coyotes (5 male, 1 female) by radio-telemetry; 2) to assess the implementation of reintroduction procedures by methods of policy analysis and statistical process control. The combination of research and …

Pb1024-Control Cockroaches In The Home, The University Of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service
Pb1024-Control Cockroaches In The Home, The University Of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service
Insects, Pests, Plant Diseases and Weeds
Cockroaches are the number one pest in homes or other buildings They have successfully adapted to living wherever people live and are common on ships, in warehouses, restaurants, stores, apartments, offices, hotels and one-family dwellings. In fact, cockroaches are often the first occupant in a new building.
Cockroaches are frequently carried into buildings in bags or boxes. They can live outside in water meters, garbage dumps or sewage systems and then migrate into buildings.
Cockroaches hide in sheltered, dark places during the day. Because they avoid light, they may not be detected in a home for months. Most homes have …
