Implications Of Biomechanical Characters Of Subterranean Clover On Feeding By Redlegged Earth Mite And Intake By Sheep, D A. Henry, S K. Baker, T J. Ridsdill-Smith
Implications Of Biomechanical Characters Of Subterranean Clover On Feeding By Redlegged Earth Mite And Intake By Sheep, D A. Henry, S K. Baker, T J. Ridsdill-Smith
IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)
The biomechanical strength of cultivars of subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum) that were either resistant or susceptible to feeding by redlegged earth mite was measured as the force required to penetrate their leaves with a small, tubular punch. Cotyledons and trifoliate leaves of cultivars resistant to redlegged earth mite had a higher resistance to penetration than cultivars susceptible to redlegged earth mite. Cotyledons needed a higher force to penetrate than trifoliate leaves. The possible implications for intake by ruminants of differences between the cultivars in biomechanical characters are also considered.
An Examination Of The Effects Of Bilateral And Unilateral Very Short-Term Dcer Training On Strength And Neuromuscular Responses Within The Lower Limb Bilateral Deficit, Mark Travis Byrd
Theses and Dissertations--Kinesiology and Health Promotion
The very short-term resistance training (VST) model, utilizing only 2-3 training sessions, has been used to examine early phase skeletal muscle, neural, and performance adaptations. The VST model has previously been used to examine these early phase adaptations in bilateral and unilateral, isometric, isokinetic, and dynamic muscle actions in the limbs of the upper- and lower-body. The bilateral deficit (BLD) is a phenomenon in which the sum of the forces produced unilaterally is greater than the force produced bilaterally during maximal contraction of the limbs. The appearance of a bilateral deficit has been be related to various factors; including training …
Lifestyle Contributors To Cardiovascular Disease Risk, Adam J. Berrones
Lifestyle Contributors To Cardiovascular Disease Risk, Adam J. Berrones
Theses and Dissertations--Kinesiology and Health Promotion
Aortic stiffness is an independent risk factor that has prognostic value regarding future cardiovascular disease (CVD) events such as myocardial infarction, strokes, and heart failure. Although death rates due to coronary heart disease have declined in recent years, the leading global killer remains CVD and prevalence is still high. Understanding lifestyle contributors associated with aortic stiffness would provide the public with insight into targeting key health-related behaviors.
The purpose of this observational study was to examine the association of physical activity, physical function, and dietary quality as independent factors contributing to aortic stiffness in apparently healthy middle aged men. Fifty-two …
The Female Athlete, Dilip R. Patel, Donald E. Greydanus, Hatim A. Omar
The Female Athlete, Dilip R. Patel, Donald E. Greydanus, Hatim A. Omar
Pediatrics Faculty Publications
The female athlete has today became an accepted part of sports in elementary school, junior high, senior high, and college. This chapter covers various aspects of the prepubertal and pubertal female athlete. An historical perspective will be presented and selected comments provided on psychological and physiologic aspects of the female athlete. Concepts of adolescent gynecology are reviewed, including breast concerns and menstrual dilemmas in relation to sports activity. Exercise during pregnancy is also considered. Iron deficiency anemia and stress urinary incontinence
