Objective: To examine the impact of exogenous testosterone undecanoate (TU) on chronic stress-induced behavioral changes of sensory contact model in adolescent male Swiss Albino mice. Design: Stress was induced by sensory contact model (SCM) for 12 consecutive days. Defeated mice were randomly assigned to control group (vehicle), testosterone undecanoate (100mg/Kg) (TU 100) or testosterone undecanoate (500mg/Kg) (TU 500) given intramuscular once for 45 days administered 2 hours after the last SCM session. Results: SCM significantly reduced distance traveled, time spent in the center, average speed in the open field test compared to negative control group. In addition, SCM significantly reduced …

Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a global public health crisis. The high infectivity of the disease even from non-symptomatic infected patients, together with the lack of a definitive cure or preventive measures are all responsible for disease outbreak. The severity of COVID-19 seems to be mostly dependent on the patients’ own immune response. The over-activation of the immune system in an attempt to kill the virus, can cause a “cytokine storm” which in turn can induce acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), as well as multi-organ damage, and ultimately may lead to death. Thus, harnessing the immunomodulatory properties of mesenchymal …

Aims: Serine protease inhibitor B1 (SerpinB1) is a neutrophil elastase inhibitor that has been proved to be associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus and pancreatic β-cell proliferation. In this study, we investigated 2 SERPINB1 SNPs, rs114597282 and rs15286, regarding their association with diabetes risk and various anthropometric and biochemical parameters in Egyptian type 2 diabetic patients.
Materials and Methods: A total of 160 subjects (62 control and 98 type 2 diabetic patients) participated in this study. Various anthropometric and biochemical parameters were assessed. Genotyping assay for the two SNPs was done using TaqMan genotyping assays. The association of rs15286 variants …

Previous studies have shown that caffeine attenuates stress-induced mood dysfunction and memory deterioration through neuronal adenosine A2A receptors antagonism. However, whether caffeine exerts this effect through modulating other molecular targets, which interfere with the resilience to social defeat stress in adolescent male mice is unknown. This study was conducted to investigate the role of caffeine in the behavioral responses to social stress induced by the sensory contact model (SCM) and the possible alteration of the gene expression level of Na/K ATPase pump. Adolescent male mice were exposed to SCM for 12 days. Caffeine was administered intraperitoneal daily for 14 days …

Brucellosis is considered a significant health threat, it is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Brucella, which can spread from animals to humans causing severe diseases. Through this project, we aim to develop a very highly sensitive biosensor to detect Brucella early before spreading. This sensor is based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technique, which is used to analyze kinetics of interaction between biomolecules. It can detect down to picomolar concentrations of some proteins.

Cardiovascular diseases constitute a serious public health problem. It is estimated that they are responsible for nearly 30% of world mortality. Regardless of the developments in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases, their incidence rate remains increasing. Therefore, newlines of drugs are needed to manage the expanding population of patients with cardiovascular diseases. Even though the most common existing treatments for cardiovascular diseases are synthetic molecules, natural compounds, of different chemical classes, are also being tested. Medicinal plants have been employed in the treatment of some cardiovascular diseases such as congestive heart failure and hypertension many centuries ago. Recently, …

natural products ranking in contemporary medicine is now well recognized and continues to be of interests as a source of novel lead compounds. Moreover, by applying molecular docking which is an effective approach to identify compounds that could conform to the site of interest of the target proteins. Thus, the potency of the compound is estimated by researchers and hence clinical application are achieved based on these biological discoveries. Accordingly, using the virtual screening based on natural product database could also be an encouraging approach for drug discovery, especially for complex diseases such as CVD
Therapeutic Efficacy Of Umbilical Cordderived Stem Cells For Diabetes Mellitus: A Meta-Analysis Study, Dina H. Kassem, Mohamed M. Kamal
Therapeutic Efficacy Of Umbilical Cordderived Stem Cells For Diabetes Mellitus: A Meta-Analysis Study, Dina H. Kassem, Mohamed M. Kamal

Background: Stem cell therapy provides great hope for patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). DM is a seriously alarming metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and β cell dysfunction. Efficient novel therapeutic modalities to treat DM are indeed warranted. Stem cells (SC) derived from the umbilical cord specifically provide several advantages and unique characteristics being a readily available non-invasive source, with an additional credit for their banking potential. This meta-analysis study aims to provide a focused assessment for therapeutic efficacy of umbilical cord (UC)-derived SC-transplantation, namely Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stem cells (WJMSCs) and umbilical cord blood (UCB) for DM. Methods: The clinical …
