Were it possible to accurately estimate in dollars and cents the average annual loss caused by grasshoppers, cutworms, and army worms to the growing crops of South Dakota, the figure arrived at would be a staggering one. These three pests cause a greater average annual damage than any other three insect pests in the state. Natural conditions here are such that we may expect outbreaks from any of these three in any part of the state for many years to come.
