Inhibitory Activity Of Metabolites From Mangosteen Roots Garcinia Mangostana L. On Hepatocellular Carcinoma And Colon Cancer Cell Growth, Kedkran Koopklang
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Liver cancer is one of the most common deadliest diseases both worldwide and in Thailand. Because of its rich and dual blood supply, malignant tumors in the liver could grow proliferative and rapidly spread to another organ. This process was called Metastasis, the major cause of human death. Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) generally known as a queen of fruits, has been widely studied in medicinal applications for many decades, due to plenty of bioactive metabolites such as xanthones as a major component. Nonetheless, reports about bioactivities of minor components were barely known. In this study, metabolites isolated from mangosteen roots …

Biodegradation Of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Commonly Found In Coal Slurry Using White Rot Fungi Isolated From East Kalimantan, Retno Wulandari
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Fifty specimens of white-rot fungi were identified and placed into 6 families and 30 species. Two new records of resupinate fungi (Basidiomycota) were discovered and reported for Indonesia: Ceriporia inflata and Ceriporia lacerata. Furthermore, a four-step screening protocol to select WRF has been conducted. These stepwise protocols have selected Trametes polyzona PBURU 12 based on its superior performance among the 30 isolates tested in this experiment with laccase as the major LMEs produced. Plackett-Burman’s design was used for screening multiple factors at a time. The result suggested that the highest positive effects influencing laccase production by PBURU 12 were glucose, …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Genome Annotation Pipelines For Prokaryotic And Eukaryotic Microorganisms Using De Novo Short Read Genome Assembly, Songtham Anuntakarun
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is the massively parallel sequencing technology that has revolutionized biological sciences. Currently, microorganism genomes have been widely studied using NGS. However, the lack of details in the draft or reference genome is a common problem in genome analysis. Therefore, this study aims to develop genome analysis pipelines for eukaryotic and prokaryotic microorganisms using public bioinformatics software and public databases. Leishmania matiniquensis and Leptospira interrogans were used as models for genome assembly and annotation in eukaryote and prokaryote, respectively. Our pipelines used SPAdes for short read assembled, AUGUSTUS and Prokka for gene prediction in eukaryotic and prokaryotic microorganisms, …
Effects Of Soluble And Insoluble Fibres On Pasting And Retrogradation Of Wheat Flour And Quality Of Bread, Arati Bhatta
Effects Of Soluble And Insoluble Fibres On Pasting And Retrogradation Of Wheat Flour And Quality Of Bread, Arati Bhatta
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study aimed to investigate the effect of selected fibres on pasting as well as short-term and long-term retrogradation of starch in wheat flour and to investigate the quality of fibre-added white pan breads. Two soluble fibres, tara gum (TG) and k-carrageenan (CAR), and one insoluble fibre, cellulose (CEL), were added to wheat flour at different levels (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0%). Regarding pasting behaviour, addition of soluble fibres was found to cause an increase in peak, trough, breakdown, and final viscosity. Meanwhile the addition tended to decrease setback viscosity and pasting temperature. In contrast, insoluble fibre addition posed a minimal …
Effects Of Chitosan Combined With Chitosan-Montmorillonite Nanocomposites Coating On Postharvest Quality Of 'Hom Thong' Banana Fruit, Arisa Wantat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Chitosan (CTS) has been widely applied as a fruit coating in commercial fruit crops to prolong their shelf-life. In the present research, chitosan coatings were applied on ‘Hom Thong’ banana fruit, an important exported cultivar of Thailand. Postharvest qualities of ‘Hom Thong’ banana were measured after coating with 1% (w/v) low molecular weight (LMW-CTS: 65 kDa), medium molecular weight (MMW-CTS: 265 kDa), and high molecular weight (HMW-CTS: 540 kDa) chitosan for 1 min. The application of HMW-CTS showed the thickest of coated film and had effectiveness as a barrier of water vapor and O2 transmission. HMW-CTS treatment could retard fruit …
