Alzheimer’S Disease And The P.V236e Variant In The Apoe Gene, Alton Chad Sorensen, John Kauwe Feb 2016

Alzheimer’S Disease And The P.V236e Variant In The Apoe Gene, Alton Chad Sorensen, John Kauwe

Journal of Undergraduate Research

I was interested in trying to validate the findings of the publication by Medway et al. concerning the SNP rs199768005 using data from the Cache Country data set. Unfortunately, of the 4703 people from our data set, only 10 were carriers. Using R statistical analysis, I found that the p-value for this SNP with an association to protect for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) was not significant. It was similarly not significant in its association with Any AD. I also ran other models to include for factors such as education or age in conjunction with this SNP and its association with AD …

Oat Snp Marker Discovery And Mapping Based On 454 Pyrosequencing Of Genome-Reduced Avena Magna Murphy Et Terrell, Rachel Rebecca Redman Jul 2011

Oat Snp Marker Discovery And Mapping Based On 454 Pyrosequencing Of Genome-Reduced Avena Magna Murphy Et Terrell, Rachel Rebecca Redman

Theses and Dissertations

The size and complexity of the oat genomes (Avena L., x = 7) have made genetic studies, including the discovery of molecular markers, difficult. Recent attention to these species has resulted in the development of many DArT -based markers in the tetraploid A. magna Murphy et Terrill (2n = 28, CCDD genomes), along with numerous RFLP's, SSR's, DArT's, and EST-based SNPs in hexaploid A. sativa L. (2n = 42, AACCDD). Here we report the first SNP markers for tetraploid oat based on genome reduction and high-throughput pyrosequencing in two inbred lines of A. magna: A-169 (wild) and Ba …

Marker Discovery In Allotetraploid Cotton Using 454 Pyrosequencing, Robert L. Byers Jul 2011

Marker Discovery In Allotetraploid Cotton Using 454 Pyrosequencing, Robert L. Byers

Theses and Dissertations

A narrow germplasm base and a complex allotetraploid genome have historically made the discovery of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers difficult in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum). We conducted a genome reduction experiment to identify SNPs from two accessions of G. hirsutum and two accessions of G. barbadense. Approximately 2 million sequence reads were assembled into contigs with an N50 of 508 bp and analyzed for SNPs. A total of 11,834 and 1,679 SNPs between the accessions G. hirsutum and G. barbadense, respectively, were identified with highly conservative parameters (a minimum read depth of 8x at each SNP …

Assessment Of Chenopodium Quinoa Willd. Genetic Diversity In The Usda And Cip-Fao Collections Using Ssr?S And Snp?S, Shawn A. Christensen Nov 2005

Assessment Of Chenopodium Quinoa Willd. Genetic Diversity In The Usda And Cip-Fao Collections Using Ssr?S And Snp?S, Shawn A. Christensen

Theses and Dissertations

Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is a staple grain for the indigenous people of the Andean region of South America with excellent nutritional qualities, including protein content. The objective of this study is to report on the development of fluorescence-tagged simple sequence repeats (SSRs) and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to (1) genetically characterize the inherent diversity of 152 accessions of C. quinoa; (2) determine to what degree the CIP-FAO collection represents the range of genetic diversity in quinoa; and (3) test four hypotheses regarding quinoa?s center of diversity, Highland and Lowland clustering patterns, origin of Lowland varieties, and the …
