An Analysis Of Economic Factors And Institutions Affecting The Productivity Of South Dakota Land And Water Resources For Upland Game Birds And Migratory Waterfowl, Arthur J. Matson Sep 1964

An Analysis Of Economic Factors And Institutions Affecting The Productivity Of South Dakota Land And Water Resources For Upland Game Birds And Migratory Waterfowl, Arthur J. Matson

Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)

This study examines the role of government at the state level in the allocation of land and water resources which supply recreational products for which there is economic demand. Two approaches are employed with special reference to South Dakota. One approach considers the productivities of resources which provide goods and services according to consumer choice. The other approach analyzes policy decisions and the means by which society, organized through government, is able to move toward a goal of maximization of satisfactions. The two approaches are highly interrelated. Attention is given (1) to the jurisdiction of a state over the factors …

Factors Affecting The B-Vitamin Content Of Cottage Cheese, Gary Dean Reif Sep 1964

Factors Affecting The B-Vitamin Content Of Cottage Cheese, Gary Dean Reif

Open Access Master's Theses (through 2010)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the vitamin content of Cottage cheese and to study the factors which may alter the content of certain B-vitamins. The specific objectives were as follows:

  1. To determine the niacin, B6, B12 and folic acid content of skimmilk and Cottage cheese and the retention of those vitamins in the curd from the milk.
  2. To study the synthesis of niacin, B6, B12 and folic acid during the 16-hr setting period used in making Cottage cheese, and to determine whether the vitamin synthesis by the starter was partly responsible …

B627: The Relation Of Tree And Stand Characteristics To Basal Area Growth Of Red Spruce Trees In Partially Cut Stands In Eastern Maine, A. Temple Bowen Jr. Sep 1964

B627: The Relation Of Tree And Stand Characteristics To Basal Area Growth Of Red Spruce Trees In Partially Cut Stands In Eastern Maine, A. Temple Bowen Jr.

Bulletins

This bulletin reports on a study that evaluated the relationship of red spruce tree growth to various tree and stand conditions. Some of the tree characteristics selected for this study were initial dbh., live crown length, total height, total age at dbh, and the periodic basal area growth five years prior to partial cutting. Stand conditions that were considered included basal area per acre and the number of trees per acre, since both are relative measures of the competition between trees on any given area. The relationships between these factors would be useful in assessing the potential of any given …

Digenetic Trematodes Of Fishes As Indicators Of The Ecology, Phylogeny And Zoogeography Of Their Hosts [Abstract], Harold W. Manter Sep 1964

Digenetic Trematodes Of Fishes As Indicators Of The Ecology, Phylogeny And Zoogeography Of Their Hosts [Abstract], Harold W. Manter

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty and Staff Publications

The prevalence and diversity of trematodes of fishes, together with the fact that many of them have considerable host specificity, make them a favorable group for studies of host relationships and zoogeography.

Cytogenetic Studies Of Cercocarpus In Utah, Grant Lloyd Pyrah Sep 1964

Cytogenetic Studies Of Cercocarpus In Utah, Grant Lloyd Pyrah

Theses and Dissertations

Within the genus Cercocarpus H.B.K., commonly called mountain mahogany, there are three species, C. monanus Raf., C. ledifolius Nutt., and C. intricatus S. Wats., that occupy rather distinct habitats in Utah. During the past two years a study of Cercocarpus populations growing throughout Utah has shown not only that hybridization does occur between all three species but that in some instances viable progeny are produced from these F1 hybrids. Despite rather severe isolation barriers, there is sufficient plasticity to permit inter-breeding under certain circumstances.
