Typing Of Some Clinically Significant Nocardia Strains Using A Digoxigenin-Labelled Rdna Gene Probe, Kami̇l Işik, Nevzat Şahi̇n, Ergi̇n Kari̇ptaş, Michael Goofellow

Turkish Journal of Biology

In this study, ribotyping (restriction polymorphism ribosomal RNA analyses) was applied as a taxonomic tool for bacteria belonging to the genus Nocardia. A total of 21 Nocardia strains were clearly distinguished using a combination of EcoRV gene restriction endonuclease patterns together with a digoxigenin-labelled Streptomyces violaceoruber TK21 rDNA probe. Five distinct ribotypes were identified, and each ribotype contained 4 to 8 restriction fragments ranging in size from 1.2 to 20.7 kb. The evaluation of the results showed that N. brasiliensis, N. farcinica, N. otitidiscaviarum and N. seriolea are taxonomically well-established species, except N. pseudobrasiliensis. Therefore, it can be concluded that …

Macrofungi Of Ağrı Province, Kenan Demi̇rel, Yusuf Uzun, Abdullah Kaya Jan 2002

Macrofungi Of Ağrı Province, Kenan Demi̇rel, Yusuf Uzun, Abdullah Kaya

Turkish Journal of Botany

Macrofungi were collected during field trips in the Ağrı district between 1997 and 2000. At the end of field and laboratory studies, 45 taxa belonging to 3 classes and 18 families were identified. Three of these, Pluteus ephebeus (Fr.:Fr.) Gill. (Pluteaceae), Coprinus auricomus Pat. (Coprinaceae) and Inocybe tigrina Heim. (Cortinariaceae), are new records for the mycoflora of Turkey.

Macrofungi Of Değirmenboğazı (Balıkesir), Fadi̇me Yilmaz, Mustafa Işiloğlu

Turkish Journal of Botany

The macrofungi collected during field trips from the Değirmenboğazı picnic area between 1998 and 2001 were investigated taxonomically. As a result of these field and laboratory studies, 54 taxa belonging to 19 families were identified. These species are presented as a list. Eleven of these taxa are new records to the Turkish Macromycota.

An Investigation On Fish Fauna Of The River Mert (Samsun), Selma Uğurlu (Helli̇), Nazmi̇ Polat Jan 2002

An Investigation On Fish Fauna Of The River Mert (Samsun), Selma Uğurlu (Helli̇), Nazmi̇ Polat

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This study was carried out between May 1999 and June 2000 in order to determine the fish species of the River Mert. In total, 244 individuals from different sampling stations were caught by electric shock, scoop nets, fish nets and fishing lines. In this study, 3 species and 2 subspecies were identified as belonging to 3 families (Cyprinidae, Cobitidae, Gobiidae). The systematic characteristics of fish species were explained. These characteristics were then compared with those in previous studies, and keys to identification were also presented.

Research On The Herpetofauna Of Murat Mountain (Kütahya-Uşak), Adem Özdemi̇r, İbrahi̇m Baran

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, the amphibians and reptilians of Murat Mountain, where only mountain frogs have been investigated so far, are introduced. A total of 99 specimens from 15 different species were collected. Four of the species belong to anurans, one belongs to tortoises, six belong to lizards and four belong to the snakes group.

On The Distribution And Taxonomic Status Of Microtus Guentheri (Danford And Alston, 1880) And Microtus Lydius Blackler, 1916 (Mammalia: Rodentia) In Turkey, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t, Ercüment Çolak Jan 2002

On The Distribution And Taxonomic Status Of Microtus Guentheri (Danford And Alston, 1880) And Microtus Lydius Blackler, 1916 (Mammalia: Rodentia) In Turkey, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t, Ercüment Çolak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Topotypes of Microtus guentheri were compared with specimens of the genus Microtus with 2n=54 chromosomes from western Anatolia. According to morphological and biometrical comparisons, it was determined that M. guentheri is a different species from Microtus lydius. The dorsal colour and the shape of the baculum distinguish M. guentheri from M. lydius morphologically. In addition, ear length, interorbital constriction, mastoid breadth, height of tympanic bulla and weight of M. guentheri were found to be statistically different from those of the nominate subspecies of M. lydius (p
