Two New Species Of Inocybe (Inocybaceae: Agaricomycetes) From Turkey Based On Morphological Characteristics And Phylogenetic Evidence, Oğuzhan Kaygusuz, Ditte Bandini, Henning Knudsen, Meike Piepenbring

Turkish Journal of Botany

During a survey of agarics in the Mediterranean region of southwestern Turkey, some noteworthy mushrooms were collected. Among the specimens, two represent new species of Inocybe which are proposed and illustrated in this study as Inocybe pseudogeophylla and I. succinea. Molecular phylogenetic analyses based on a nuc rDNA ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS) and partial 28S rDNA (LSU) dataset reveal that these species belong to the Inocybe geophylla group. The sequences of the new species form two independent lineages and differ from the known species of Inocybe by a unique combination of morphological characteristics. Detailed macro- and micromorphological features, colour photographs, habitat and …

Turkish Journal of Botany

During a biodiversity survey in the Western Taurus Mountains (Antalya, Türkiye), a new species of the genus Knautia (Dipsacoideae, Caprifoliaceae), K. sivridaghense, was discovered. The new species, which is characterized by its dwarf caespitose perennial habit, is found in rocky places under mixed forests at elevations of 1400–1450 m. Knautia sivridaghense is distinguished from its morphologically similar species, K. goecmenii, especially by its dwarf caespitose perennial habit, unbranched stems, length of involucral bracts, and other floral characteristics. Our phylogenetic analyses based on the nuclear ITS and chloroplast petN(ycf6)-psbM regions confirm its placement within Sect. Tricheroides, contributing to the understanding of …

Trichoderma Indica: A New Species In The Longibrachiatum Clade From Western Ghats, India, Ajay Lagashetti, Sanjay Singh, Paras Nath Singh

Turkish Journal of Botany

Trichoderma is a hyperdiverse genus that comprises species showing a wide range of applications. In this study, we have found an isolate of the genus Trichoderma from a soil sample collected from Vetal Hill, Pune, Maharashtra State, India. The isolate was found to be morphologically distinct compared to other isolates of the Longibrachiatum clade showing longer phialides and shorter conidia. Moreover, a phylogenetic analysis based on combined sequence data of the second-largest nuclear RNA polymerase subunit (rpb2), and the translation elongation factor 1-α (tef1-α) confirmed the uniqueness of the present isolate, showing an independent branch supported by strong bootstrap values …

A New Species Of Parasola Section Conopileae (Psathyrellaceae) From Pakistan, Zaman Khan, Muhammad Awais Arshad, Abdul Rehman Niazi, Abdul Nasir Khalid

Turkish Journal of Botany

The genus Parasola is sparsely documented in Pakistan with almost all of its reports from lowlands or northern areas of the country. In this study, we describe a new species, Parasola cinnamomescens, from the Thal Desert, a subtropical region located in Punjab Province, Pakistan. Evidence from morphology and DNA sequence data encompassing the internal transcribed spacer (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 = ITS) and D1/D2 domain of the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal DNA (28S) reveals that this species is divergent from all previously known species and confirms its placement in Parasola sect. Conopileae. It is recognized by convex to hemispherical or broadly conical …

The aim of the study was to investigate the shape of the foramen magnum and condylus occipitalis of mammalian species belonging to different feeding groups. For this, two-dimensional geometric morphometric method analyses were applied. The data from the skulls of the 12 species were used. In principal component analysis, the first three principal components accounted for 70.353%of the total shape variation. According to the first principal component, the dorsal edge of the condylus occipitalis and foramen magnum contributed the most to shape variation. Most of the individuals were correctly separated according to the feeding groups. The most accurate grouping features …

Arundinella Stenostachya (Arundinella, Poaceae), A Reevaluated New Species From Se Asia, Liqiong Jiang, Zhenwen Liu, Ende Liu, Atchara Teerawatananon, Yuehua Wang, Hua Peng

Turkish Journal of Botany

Arundinella stenostachya, a new species, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to A. decempedalis and A. bengalensis, but differs from the former species by the length of panicle branches, type of trichome on nodes and pedicels length, and from the latter in height and diameter of culms, the length and width of leaf blades, pedicels length, and the length of panicles and branches. The new species has been mistakenly identified as A. decempedalis and A. bengalensis. Molecular analyses based on ITS sequences also support A. stenostachya as a distinct species.

The genus Sechium includes 11 species, which are highly related to the genus Sicyos. Sechium is native to Mesoamerica, but only S. edule and S. tacaco have been domesticated. Sechium edule is the most exploited species of the genus due to its broad phenotypic variability. A total of 68 samples from the species S. chinantlense, S. compositum, S.hintonii and S.edule were evaluated, as well as their respective varietal complexes (albus, nigrum and virens groups), thereby amplifying the loci of mitochondrial DNA (CoxIII), chloroplast DNA (rbcL) and the nuclear ribosomal ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region. This was done with the aim of establishing phylogenetic …
