At its best, a university is a collection of individuals ‐‐ students and faculty ‐‐ focused on learning and discovering new knowledge. For this goal to be realized, a critical element is having faculty members deeply engaged in such discovery within their disciplines. Scholarship, in the form of journal articles, book chapters, monographs and similar endeavors, creative activity which can take an even wider range of forms, and funded research which explores the boundaries of disciplines all contribute to such engagement. Through such participation, faculty members stay at the growing edges of their fields, and in so doing, they enrich …

Exhibition Handlist, Kathleen M. Webb
Supplemental Media: Catalogue, Handlist, Lectures, Events and More
In preparing for Imprints and Impressions, we ran across many interesting words that have fallen out of the general lexicon. With this booklet, we have brought one back: handlist. Dean Kathleen Webb ran across it in a 1944 booklet from the J. Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City. Though the word no longer appears in most new dictionaries, it’s still in the Oxford English Dictionary:
A list of a particular type or category of things, presented in a readily consultable form; esp. a list of the books or manuscripts in a particular place, on a particular subject, etc.; …

Resistance And Innovation In The Evolving Urban Food System Of Monterrey Mexico, Craig K. Harris
Resistance And Innovation In The Evolving Urban Food System Of Monterrey Mexico, Craig K. Harris
Food Systems Summit 2014
Monterrey is the capital city of the state of Nuevo Leon in Mexico. Historically it is the leading industrial city of Mexico, with a strong history of foreign direct investment. Located in the northeastern part of the country, its proximity to Texas has fostered its status as a modern cosmopolitan metropolis. The past couple decades have been characterized by a history of violence, but that is now diminishing as citizens' groups are "taking back our city". The hot and arid climate of the region meant that, as the metropolis developed, it had to rely on some importation of food from …
"La Misma Realidad De Cada Lugar Es Diferente" ("The Same Reality Of Each Place Is Different"): A Case Study Of An Organic Farmers Market In Lima, Peru, Kevin Cody
Food Systems Summit 2014
Alternative food movements in North America and Western Europe have proliferated in recent years as producers and consumers attempt to reform what is perceived as a fatally flawed industrial food system. Meanwhile, agricultural producers in the global South are increasingly dispossessed of land and livelihoods as agro-industrial processes take on increasingly global dimensions. Given that many of the challenges facing small-scale producers in the North and South stem from similar patterns of agro-industrialization, might they also share similar responses to these challenges?
In this article I make a case for broadening the geographic frame of reference for alternative food systems …

Student Growth Measures For Teacher And Principal Evaluations, Suzanne Franco, Allison Mueller
Student Growth Measures For Teacher And Principal Evaluations, Suzanne Franco, Allison Mueller
Symposium of Student Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities Materials
There were three Ohio research efforts about Student Growth Measures (SGM) for Teacher and Principal Evaluations: 1) extended testing for previously non-‐tested subjects and grades, 2) relationship between the teacher and principal evaluation systems’ implementation plans, and 3) an empirical study of Local Education Agencies’ (LEA) year-‐end evaluation data from 2013. In 2011-‐2012 Ohio offered a 2 year mini-‐grant to LEAs agreeing to administer extended testing for Value-‐Added measures (VAM) in grades and content areas not represented in the Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA). The mini-‐grant allowed the state to create testing pools sufficient to produce teacher-‐level VAMs. American College Testing …
