Trial 68E5. Location paddock N1A on Esperance Downs Research Station (Gibson). Long term rotation trials.

Cleared in 1951 and sown to clover, cropped in 1961 and 1962 then Woogenellup sub clover and Brome grass were sown in 1963, topdressed until the start of the trial in 1968. Lupins were sown in trial in 1974. Esperance sub clover has been established on all plots.

Cleared 1962, cropped 1977 (oats), 1978 (oats and Lupins), pasture in 1979. Continuously cropped to cereals up to 1986, then changed to wheat after wheat, lupins or clover.

It has been suggested that high levels of phosphorus application to lupins can reduce the impact of leaf and root diseases. Two old rotation trials provided a range of disease burdens, across which phosphate rates on lupins were applied. Disease scores, vegetative yields, phosphorus concentration and seed yields were measured.

The inventory and condition survey of rangelands in the Carnarvon Basin, undertaken by the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA) between 1980 and 1982, describes and maps the natural resources of the region’s pastoral leasehold land. This survey report provides a baseline record of the existence and condition of the natural area’s resources, to assist with the planning and implementation of land management practices. The report identified and described the condition of soils, landforms, vegetation, habitat, ecosystems, and declared plants and animals. 4th successive crop on new land. Trial has shown that the effectiveness of the different types of rock phosphate were about the fifth to one tenth as effective as the fresh (triple) superphosphate applied in 1984. The effectiveness of the superphosphate, decreased by 60 between year 1 and 2, and by a further 10-15% by 1987.
