Isoprene is a biogenic volatile organic compound that is emitted by various plant species and plays an important role in the chemistry of the atmosphere. When it reacts with pollutants in the air, such as nitrogen oxides, the precursor to ozone (O3) is formed. In this experiment, we measured leaf emissions from 20 different oak species at the Morton Arboretum (Lisle, Illinois). The aim was to better understand differences in isoprene emissions across oak species. On account of huge yield losses, weed infestation is a serious threat in wheat crops throughout the country. A comprehensive survey to find out the major weeds in wheat in Dera Ismail Khan was carried out during the crop season of 2012-13. Wheat fields at seed farms of Rakhmanghan, RakhZandani, Rata Kulachi and adjacent farmer’s fields to each seed farm were investigated. Data was collected at the peak growth stage of weeds and the quadratic method was used to record relative density (RD), relative frequency (RF), relative crowding coefficient (RCC) and importance value index (IVI). Metal Mixtures Toxicity And Bioaccumulation In Tilapia Nilotica At 96-Hr Lc50 Exposure, Faiza Ambreen, Muhammad Javed

Laboratory tests were conducted on fingerlings of Tilapia nilotica to check the bioaccumulation patterns of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and cobalt (Co) during acute toxicity at constant water temperature, pH and total hardness. Metal mixtures viz. Lead + Cadmium, Cobalt-Lead and Cadmium-Cobalt were selected to assess the acute toxicity in terms of 96-hr LC50 along with bioaccumulation patterns in selected organs of Tilapia nilotica (skin, muscles and liver). Sensitivity of Tilapia nilotica in terms of 96-hr LC50 for all mixtures varied significantly. The problems of synonymy, incorrect species author citation/abbreviation and spelling errors are hampering botanical research around the globe. This article was aimed to quantify the intensity and errors encountered in this regard in published botanical articles pertaining to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan. To address this issue, 100 articles published in 1999-2015 were reviewed. A total of 5460 entries were processed carefully and 1350 species binomials (excluding repititions) were extracted that were linked with 1333 accepted binomials according to theplantlist.org. Shell Bluff is described by geologists as stratigraphically one of the most important exposures in the Georgia Coastal Plain because the bluff is home to the large oyster, Crassostrea gigantissima, now extinct. Native Americans inhabited this area prior to Hernando DeSoto and his men who visited the area in 1540. They were probably the first Europeans to visit Shell Bluff. John and son William Bartram visited the bluff in 1764 and John described the bluff in his journal and the existence of large oysters. In this discussion we consider an autonomous parabolic epidemic 2-dimensional system modelling the dynamics of transmission of immunizing diseases for a closed population into bounded regular domain. Our model takes into account diffusion of population with external influx as well as one class of infected individuals. We study the well-posedness two-component diffusion equations including external supplies with Neumann conditions using upper/lower solutions and analytic semigroups. In case of constant population or not, with non-oscillatory solution and constant diffusion, this problem admits travelling wave solutions whose minimum wave speed is surveyed here.

Protein adsorption is an important subfield of Biophysics particularly relevant in medical science. Using a computational simulation with a basic but configurable two-dimensional square lattice model of approximate amino acid interactions, I investigated the entropic effects of protein adsorption on a weakly attractive surface. These simulations allow for a precise calculation of the partition functions of these complex systems, from which I can then analyze other thermodynamic properties.

Indianapolis started it all in 1983, when 300 people joined the International Joint Commission for its first Biennial Meeting on Great Lakes Water Quality. Kingston was next in 1985, followed by Toledo in 1987, Hamilton in 1989, and Traverse City in 1991, when more than 1,600 people participated in the meeting. Now, ten years later, Windsor will host the International Joint Commission’s 1993 Biennial Meeting on Great Lakes Water Quality. As a result of the continuing high water levels on the Great Lakes,the Governments of Canada and the United States have asked the IJC to examine and report on ways to alleviate the adverse consequences of fluctuating water levels, in terms of both the immediate high level crisis and the long term consequences. Record high levels are continuing throughout most of the Great Lakes basin, except on Lake Ontario. While levels are expected to stay below recorded maximums on Lake Ontario and Lake Superior, levels on these lakes will remain high if extreme water supplies continue.

Under the 1987 Protocol revising the 1978 Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, the International Joint Commission (IJC) is responsible for reviewing and commenting on the adequacy of Re- medial Action Plans (RAPs) for Areas of Concern in the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence River basin. In its recently released Fifth Biennial Report on Great Lakes Water Quality, the IJC concluded that RAPS provide "a unique experiment in institutional cooperation and the first opportunity, on a broad and practical scale, to implement the ecosystem approach to environmental restoration in the Great Lakes basin."
