This paper aims to educate the readers about a novel surgery approach that is becoming popular among dermatologists. This technique, Mohs surgery, is implemented in order to treat malignant skin cancer types. This paper incorporates the history of Mohs micrographic surgery, the advantages and disadvantages of the procedure, and alternatives to this approach. The main advantage is healthy tissue preservation while disadvantages include holes in fragmented tissue margins and tissue orientation complications.

Snake Envenomation In Two Cattle: Clinical/Laboratory Aspects And Treatment Using Equine-Derived Antivenin Of Viperidae, Nuri̇ Altuğ, Cafer Tayer İşler

In this case report, specific antivenin treatment for Viperidae snake envenomation in two cattle was defined for the first time. The diagnosis of snake envenomation was made according to the history and clinical findings. Clinical examination revealed systemic (tachycardia, dyspnea, cyanosis, hypersalivation, ruminal hypotony) and local (swelling of the leg and head) findings depending on the location of snake bites. Laboratory analysis determined granulocytic leukocytosis, monocytosis, decreased iron binding capacity, and increased CK and LDH enzyme activities. In the specific treatment of cases, equine-derived polyvalent antivenin containing antitoxic immunoglobulins against Viperidae species was administered. A 2.5-year-old small male Cavalier King Charles spaniel was brought to Ondokuz Mayıs University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital with symptoms of severe watery diarrhea, pain during defecation, intermittent cough, vomiting, and emaciation. Examination of the fecal smear revealed moderate infection of Strongyloides stercoralis larvae and two adult females. Counting of the larvae in feces was performed by Baermann method and 20 larvae were determined per gram of feces. Cocaine is an addictive drug that affects more than 14 million people globally, according to the United Nations. This paper is a conceptual meta-analysis of numerous studies that tested the effects of psychopharmacological therapy along with behavioral therapy in the treatment of cocaine addiction. It is hypothesized that cocaine dependent individuals treated with a combination of psychopharmacological and behavioral therapies will be less likely to use cocaine. Measurements of cocaine use throughout the experiments were generally assessed by urine screenings. The objectives were to study the frequencies and classification of fractures in young camels and to evaluate the clinical relevance of external fixation as a method of treatment. Cases of fractures (n = 75) in young camels (less than 2 years old) were studied. On admission, the cause, site, classification, and radiography of the fractures as well as the methods of treatment were investigated. Factors affecting fracture healing after treatment were investigated and analyzed. The frequencies of fracture were affected by breed (P = 0.001) and age (P = 0.01) but not sex. The aim of this study was to establish the prevalence of repeat breeder syndrome (RBS) in different breeds and reproductive ages of cattle in central Croatia and to assess the effectiveness of hormone therapy as a treatment option. A total of 1088 dairy cows were observed, 218 heifers and 870 multiparous cows. After the third unsuccessful artificial insemination (n = 164) and a thorough clinical and gynecological examination, the cows were tested for sexually transmitted diseases. In a 500 head dairy sheep flock in Northern Greece, massive abortions (60%) were observed at 110-130 days of gestation. Attempts were made to treat the abortions with oxytetracyclin L.A. 20% but they were not successful. Toxoplasmosis was confirmed by laboratory examination of blood sera of ewes, aborted fetuses, and fetal brain samples. The remaining 200 pregnant sheep were divided in 2 groups of 100 ewes each. A patient with a turgid, hemorrhagic mass infected by myiasis in the left nostril and diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is presented. Complete blood count (CBC) showed moderate neutrophilia and eosinophilia and vital signs were in normal range. After aseptic surgical preparations and local anesthesia, the mass removed en bloc and submitted to the Department of Veterinary Pathology for histopathological evaluation. SCC was recognized microscopically by identifying malignant epithelial cells demonstrating various degrees of differentiation towards keratinocytes.

The present study was conducted to determine prevalence of Haemobartonella felis in Van cats. 121 Van cats (82 female, 39 male, aged 1-9 years) were the materials of the study. H. felis was detected in blood smears preparations of 18 (14.88%) by Papenheim staining. The effects of ethanol and 4-methyl pyrazole were investigated in the treatment of 30 dogs toxicated with antifreeze (AF). The AF toxication produced significant increases in blood urea, creatinin and potassium and a decrease in blood calcium levels. Calcium-oxalate monohydrate, which is pathognomic for AF toxication, was consistently seen in urine sediment. Ethanol was rarely effective on the multisystemic effects that occurred in dogs or ADH inhibition. CNS findings were also observed after ethanol administration. Larvae of Aelurostrongylus abstrusus were identified in the feces of a 2-year-old female cat suffering from dyspnea and incoordination for 18 months. The larvae had a terminal S-shaped projection and a subterminal dorsal spine. The larvae measured 363-378x15 µm (aver. 370x15 µm). Firstly, moxidectin (0.4 mg/kg) was given subcutaneously to 3 healthy stray cats over 1 year old to check adverse effects on cats. No adverse reaction was observed. In this study, 30 Budgerigars ( Melopsittacus undulatus) with Knemidocoptes pilae infection were treated with a spot-on application of moxidectin (Cydectin® Injection For Cattle) at a dose of 1 mg (0.1 ml Cydectin) per bird. This application was given once to 10 birds and twice at 10 days intervals to 20 birds. Clinical signs in all birds of both groups disappeared 30-40 days after treatment. No side effects were seen.

This study was carried out on cows, sheep and goats in Salkaya Village, Kovancılar, Baskıl and Sivrice towns and in Elazığ during 1994 and 1995. Fifty two myiasis cases were detected throughout the study. Forty seven (90.38%) and 5 (9.62%) of the cases were determined in sheep and cows respectively, no myiasis case was encountered in goats. Twenty two (42.32%) of the cases were seen in June during 1994 and 1995, 10 (19.23%) in May, 9 (17.31%) in July, 8 (15.38%) in September and 3 (5.77%) in August. A total of 22 dogs of different breeds with persistent estrus, between the ages of 1.5 and 6, were used. Diagnoses were made by anamnesis, general examination and vaginal smear. Vulvar edema, colour and volume of vaginal discharge, convolution of the mucosa and volume of secretion were recorded before and after treatment. Dogs were treated with 25 mg megestrol acetate (Niagestine, 25 mg/ml, Novo). Clinical manifestations disappeared within 3-7 days. Vaginal discharge ceased in 3.5±2.5 days and vulvar edema ceased in 3.5±1.6 days. In only one dog, the treatment was not effective after 15 days. The vulva was still swollen …

Twenty naturally infected horses were divided into two groups (10 control and 10 experimental) according to EPG values. An injectable formulation of moxidectin, in a dose of 0.3 mg/kg, was given to the horses orally in jam syrup. The evaluation of drug efficacy was based on EPG values. The same dose of the drug was applied to an additional 25 horses to test for side effects. The drug was found to be highly effective (100%) against strongylin parasites on days 7, 14. and 21. No side effects were observed.
