Across-Breed Genomic Prediction For Body Weight In Siberian Cattle Populations, Burak Karacaören Jan 2020

Across-Breed Genomic Prediction For Body Weight In Siberian Cattle Populations, Burak Karacaören

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Body weight (BW) is an important heritable phenotype and related to other functional and production traits in cattle. The past decade has seen an increase in emphasis on genome wide association studies (GWAS) for detecting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are associated with quantitative phenotypes. Prediction of phenotypes using across-breed GWAS information [genomic prediction (GP)] is an also important research area but received less attention from the community. Understanding the link between major genes and common ancestors within and between breeds will contribute to a deeper understanding of GP across breeds. The aims of the present study were two-fold: 1) …

Assessment Of Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases As Therapeutic Targets For The Treatmentof Babesiosis And Theileriosis, Özal Mutlu Jan 2020

Assessment Of Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases As Therapeutic Targets For The Treatmentof Babesiosis And Theileriosis, Özal Mutlu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The Piroplasmida order comprises parasitic protozoa including the Theileria and Babesia species that are transmitted by vector ticks and can cause severe diseases in domestic and wild animals. Because of limited therapies and available drug resistance, the discovery of new, effective, and safer drugs for veterinary use is important. Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) are a group of serine-threonine protein kinases found in diverse species, including animals and protozoa that conduct vital cellular functions. Therefore, they have been at the centre of drug design studies for many years. Computer-aided structure-based drug design is a fast and effective way in drug discovery …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The honeybee (Apis mellifera) is an important pollinator insect. Any pathogenic infection in this beneficial insect is undesirable. In this study, bacterial diversity in beehives was investigated to determine the potential of pathogenic bacteria in honeybees. Impact Of Ph On The Activity Of Co-Used Antimicrobials Against Resistant Escherichia Colistrains Of Animal Origin, Murat Cengi̇z, Gülçe Hepbostanci

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, combination antimicrobial therapy, due to its higher potential against resistant bacteria, was evaluated for the inhibition of multidrug-resistant E. coli strains. The influence of pH as an environmental variable on the activity of antimicrobial combinations was evaluated by calculating the factional concentration indexes at pH values 5.0, 6.0, 7.3, and 8.0. The highest synergistic activity rates of ceftriaxone + colistin, danofloxacin + colistin, danofloxacin + ceftiofur, and ceftiofur + gentamicin combinations were 50%, 33%, 100%, and 50%, respectively measured at ≥7.3 pH. The lowest synergistic activity rates for all combinations were observed at the acidic pH values …

A total of 1935 hatching eggs were incubated at 37.8 °C with 55 to 60% RH conditions. Chicks were classified according to the hatching time (HT) as follows: chicks hatched before 482 h (early HT), between 482-496 h (medium HT) and 496-510 h (late HT). The hatched chicks were randomly divided into two groups to create two feed access (FA) time: early FA and late FA. Chicks with early FA started to …

The Role Of Resveratrol On Mast Cell And Chymase And Tryptase Expression In Blunt-Chesttrauma-Induced Acute Lung Injury In Rats, Şeri̇fe Tütüncü, Aysun Çağlar Torun, Tuğrul Ertuğrul Jan 2020

The Role Of Resveratrol On Mast Cell And Chymase And Tryptase Expression In Blunt-Chesttrauma-Induced Acute Lung Injury In Rats, Şeri̇fe Tütüncü, Aysun Çağlar Torun, Tuğrul Ertuğrul

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Acute lung injury is a clinical symptom that can cause morbidity, acute respiratory failure, and risk of developing pneumonia. Mast cells are found more commonly in places where antigens can enter the body, such as skin and respiratory and digestive systems, which enables them to be among the first groups of cell to act in the defense mechanism against foreign matter entry. Resveratrol is an active substance which is found in the structure of many plants and which can be used against pathogens due to its antimicrobial effect. The aim of our study is to show the degranulation and heterogeneity …
