Comparison Of Pulping And Bleaching Behaviors Of Some Agricultural Residues, Sai̇m Ateş, İlhan Deni̇z, Hüseyi̇n Kirci, Celi̇l Ati̇k, Onur Tolga Okan
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The present study determines the characteristics of bleaching and beating of annual plants and agricultural waste, which constitute important raw material potential for the pulp and paper industry in Turkey. It also examines the effects of this process on several paper properties. Firstly, chemical contents are determined for each raw material and then evaluated for use in the pulp and paper industry. All raw materials studied are found to be suitable for use in the pulp and paper industry, according to the determined chemical content. Secondly, pulp with different properties is obtained and subsequently pretreated with the enzyme xylanase. It …

Effects Of Roasting And Enzyme Pretreatments On Yield And Quality Of Cold-Pressed Poppy Seed Oils, Di̇lek Dündar Emi̇r, Buket Aydeni̇z, Emi̇n Yilmaz
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The aim of this study was to compare the effects of roasting and enzyme pretreatments on the yield and quality of cold-pressed oils obtained from 3 poppy seed varieties (Ofis 3 (blue), Ofis 4 (yellow), Ofis 8 (white)). The oil recovery range was 21.89%-38.36% with cold pressing. The oily cakes (meal) contained 42-168 g/kg oil and 113-166.3 g/kg moisture after the cold pressing. Physicochemical and quality tests were conducted to evaluate and compare the efficacy of the pretreatments. Furthermore, fatty acid, sterol, and tocopherol compositions were determined. Oil recovery was enhanced by enzyme treatment in Ofis 3 (28.31%) and Ofis …
Ecology, Toxicity, And Hydrolytic Activities Of Bacillus Thuringiensis In Forests, Fouad Al-Momani, Maher Obeidat
Ecology, Toxicity, And Hydrolytic Activities Of Bacillus Thuringiensis In Forests, Fouad Al-Momani, Maher Obeidat
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The investigation of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) in 16 forest soil samples from Ajloun, northern Jordan, involved the isolation of 23 isolates toxic to the third instar dipteran larvae of Drosophila melanogaster and 7 isolates toxic to the third instar lepidopteran larvae of Ephestia kuehniella. The highest viable count of Bt was found in Ebeen forest soils (14.24 × 10^7 CFU g^{-1}), and the lowest viable count was found in Rasoun forest soils. The lethal concentration (LC_{50}) of Bt isolates indicated a variation in their toxicity to D. melanogaster and E. kuehniella larvae, with lower LC_{50} values for D. melanogaster suggesting …
Salinity Response Of Transgenic Potato Genotypes Expressing The Oxalate Oxidase Gene, Hakan Turhan
Salinity Response Of Transgenic Potato Genotypes Expressing The Oxalate Oxidase Gene, Hakan Turhan
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In vitro and in vivo responses of transgenic and non-transgenic potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) genotypes to salinity were investigated. A gene responsible for the production of oxalate oxidase enzyme, whose expression has been associated with plant stress tolerance, was used. Transgenic potato plants expressing the oxalate oxidase enzyme were produced using Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The transgenic nature of the plants was verified by their antibiotic (kanamycin) resistance and then in vitro enzyme assays. Four independent transgenic genotypes obtained from 2 cultivars, Maris Bard and Desiree, were tested at 5 levels of NaCl (0%, 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75% and 1.00% w/v) in vitro. …
