Turkish Journal of Zoology

Fifteen Lyciasalamandra atifi and 14 L. fazilae from Antalya Province, Turkey, were examined for helminths. Three species of nematodes, Rhabdias bermani, Aplectana acuminata, and Cosmocerca longicauda, were found in L. atifi and 2 species, Aplectana linstowi and Cosmocerca longicauda, were found in L. fazilae. L. atifi represents a new host record for each of the 3 species of nematodes reported; L. fazilae represents a new host record for each of the 2 species of nematodes reported.

Additional Records Of Gerromorpha (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) And Redescription Of Rhagovelia Nigricans Nigricans (Burmeister, 1835) From Anatolia (Turkey), Ahmet Dursun

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, 1210 adult specimens of the infraorder Gerromorpha (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) were collected from 47 different localities in eastern Anatolia, the Black Sea region, Kelkit Valley, and Hatay from 2006 to 2010, and the unpublished materials studied were collected from different parts of Turkey by Seidenstücker, Wellschmied, Demel, and Heinzl, and deposited in the Zoologische Staatssammlung München. In this study, 6 genera of 4 families and 15 species were recorded. Of those, 13 were new records for the research areas. Furthermore, Gerris lacustris (Linnaeus, 1758), Gerris thoracicus Schummel, 1832, Gerris asper (Fieber, 1860), and Gerris caucasicus Kanyukova, 1982 were …

Contributions To The Limoniidae (Insecta, Diptera) Fauna From Inner Western Anatolia, Okan Özgül, Hasan Koç

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The study was carried out between 2009 and 2011 in the inner part of western Anatolia (Afyonkarahisar, Kütahya, and Uşak), and 18 species were recorded for the first time for the Turkish Limoniidae fauna. The taxa are Ellipteroides (s.str.) lateralis (Macquart, 1835), Erioconopa diuturna (Walker, 1848), E. interposita Stary, 1976, Gonempeda flava (Schummel, 1829), Gonomyia (s.str.) recta Tonnoir, 1920, G. (Paralipophleps) bifida Tonnoir, 1920, Hoplolabis (Parilisia) longior Stary, 2006, Idiocera (s.str.) alexanderiana (Lackschewitz, 1940), Ilisia inermis Mendl, 1979, Molophilus (s.str.) appendiculatus (Staeger, 1840), M. (s.str.) niger Goetghebuer, 1920, Tasiocera (Dasymolophilus) murina (Meigen, 1818), Euphylidorea phaeostigma (Schummel, 1829), Pilaria scutellata (Staeger, …

The Discovery Of Neoechinorhynchus Zabensis (Acanthocephala: Neoechinorhynchidae) From Cyprinid Fishes In Turkey And Iran, With Special Reference To New Morphological Features Revealed By Scanning Electron Microscopy, Mehmet Cemal Oğuz, Omar Mohamed Amin, Richard Anderson Heckmann, Yahya Tepe, Gholamali Johargholizadeh, Burçak Aslan, Masoumeh Malek

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Neoechinorhynchus zabensis Amin, Abdullah, and Mhaisen, 2003 was described from Capoeta damascina (Valenciennes, 1842) and Capoeta trutta (Heckel, 1843) in the Greater and Lesser Zab rivers of northern Iraq. It is reported here from C. trutta in the Dez River, Iran, and from Capoeta barroisi Lortet, 1894 (new host record) in the Murat River, Turkey (both are new locality records). Neoechinorhynchus zabensis appears to be restricted to the Tigris-Euphrates basin in Iraq, Turkey, and Iran, where it infects native fishes of the genus Capoeta Valenciennes in Cuvier and Valenciennes, 1842 (Cyprinidae). Other fishes of the same genus from nearby river …

New Record Of Lynx Lynx (L., 1758) In Turkey (Mammalia: Carnivora), İrfan Albayrak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This paper reports the morphological characteristics of a subadult lynx, Lynx lynx, collected in 2005 from Ardanuç in Artvin Province. Pelage color, hair structure, and some cranial measurements of this specimen and other recent records of Turkish lynxes are given, including that from Beyaz Dağ in Şırnak Province in the southeastern part of Turkey collected during field work and a skin from an unknown locality in Isparta. It was concluded that Turkish lynxes are likely to represent the subspecies L. lynx dinniki based on a comparison of morphometric values given in the literature.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was performed to determine the efficacies of Lavandula officinalis, Foeniculum vulgare, and Laurus nobilis essential oils on the control of Varroa destructor (Acari: Varroidae), the most common parasite of honeybees (Apis mellifera L.). Experimental colonies from the province of Bursa, Turkey, were divided into 5 homogeneous groups of 8 hives each. The 3 essential oils plus thymol (Thymovar®, an essential oil-based drug with known efficacy that was used for comparison) were applied to 1 group each and 1 group was left untreated as a control. Each group was treated during 3 seasons, 2 consecutive autumns and 1 spring. …

Distribution Of Aquatic Oligochaetes (Annelida, Clitellata) Of High-Elevation Lakes In The Eastern Black Sea Range Of Turkey, Seray Yildiz, Murat Özbek, Mustafa Ruşen Ustaoğlu, Haşi̇m Sömek

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Many large and small lakes of varying depths are present in the Eastern Black Sea Range of Turkey, the nation's third most important glacial region following the Ağrı and Cilo-Sat mountain ranges. During the present study, 6 expeditions to collect aquatic oligochaetes from these lakes were conducted in July and August of 2005, 2006, and 2007; qualitative and quantitative samples were collected from 59 glacial lakes. We present and analyze the dominancy and distribution of aquatic oligochaete assemblages and their relation to environmental factors (temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, electrical conductivity, salinity, turbidity, PO_4^{-3}-P, HCO_3^{-}, organic carbon, hardness, Ca^{2+}, Mg^{2+}, Si, …
