Results Of The Fifth International Winter Wheat Performance Nursery Grown In 1973, J. E. Stroike, K. D. Wilhelmi, V. A. Johnson, J. W. Schmidt, P. J. Mattern
Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station
This is the fifth report of results from an International Winter Wheat Performance Nursery (IWWPN) organized in 1968 by the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station and the Agricultural Research Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture, under a contract with the Agency for International Development, U. S. Department of State. The Nursery was designed to (1) test the adaptation of winter wheat cultivars in a range of latitudes, daylengths, fertility conditions, water management, and disease complexes; (2) identify superior winter cultivars to serve as recipient genotypes for high protein and high lysine genes, and (3) test the degree of expression and stability …

Labor Requirements In Beef Cow Herds, Herbert R. Allen, David Jibben
Labor Requirements In Beef Cow Herds, Herbert R. Allen, David Jibben
Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)
The cattle producer attempts to allocate and use scarce resources so as to maximize profits. Efficient use of labor is an important factor of production. It normally serves to lower production costs which frequently results in greater profits. The following report attempts to quantify the number of annual man hours necessary for different levels of efficiency in labor use with beef cow herds. Furthermore, this report figures the monthly percentages of total annual labor required at average efficiency for five different sizes of beef cow herds. Data for this report have been obtained from a survey of 160 farmers and …

A D-Vac Calibration Technique, K. P. Pruess, R. W. Whitmore
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
Removal samples from an irrigated pasture were used as a calibration technique for the D-Vac. Plots 4 m2 were enclosed with a frame, and 1 initial and 3 removal samples were taken. Equations are given for computing the population and probability of collecting an insect. For leafhopper adults, leafhopper nymphs, Orius insidiosus (Say), and corn flea beetle, Chaetocnema pulicaria Melsheimer, calibrations (m2/linear m) were 0.405, 0.328, 0.272, and 0.490, respectively.

Tb79: The Economic Impact Of Expanding The Federal Milk Order Into Northern New England, Homer Metzger, Fred Webster
Tb79: The Economic Impact Of Expanding The Federal Milk Order Into Northern New England, Homer Metzger, Fred Webster
Technical Bulletins
This study was undertaken to (1) gather data on current marketing situations including milk volume and utilization, prices paid to producers, and rates charged for hauling milk in the federal order and state order areas, and (2) to determine the economic and related impacts of expanding the Boston regional order into Northern New England. Emphasis was placed upon the expected impact on producers but implications for milk dealers and consumers also were considered. The main focus was on Maine and Vermont situations but some data were also collected on the non-federal order markets of New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
The Agricultural Co-Operative Movement In Japan, G C. George
The Agricultural Co-Operative Movement In Japan, G C. George
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Agricultural adviser Gil George, the author of this article, returned earlier this year from 21/2 years' study in Japan, where he gained a Diploma in Japanese Language from the Osaka Institute of Foreign Studies and a Master's Degree in Economics from Hitotsubashi University, one of Japan's foremost economic institutions.
In Japan he examined the post-war development of the Japanese agricultural co-operative movement, and some aspects of marketing of agricultural products.
He also participated in the Japan- Australia Project (a committee studying the interdependence of the two economies), carried out some work for the Japan Economic Research Centre and edited papers …

Facility Costs Of Centralized Grain Storage Systems Utilizing Computer Design, Otto J. Loewer Jr., Thomas C. Bridges, Douglas G. Overhults
Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Faculty Publications
The item considered most often when estimating the cost of a grain storage facility is capacity. Of equal or greater importance is daily harvest rate. Other important considerations include drying method, materials handling equipment, energy cost, facility arrangement, labor requirements, grain quality and management ability. Only through a comparison of facilities which offer similar capacity, capability and convenience can the purchaser obtain his best system.

Rapeseed Cultivation And Usage, M. Dolores Ahles
Rapeseed Cultivation And Usage, M. Dolores Ahles
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
Rapeseed, an oil-producing crop that was cultivated in pre-Christian times in India and the Orient but was generally given up, has again become an important source of protein oil and meal. In Canada, now the leading export producer, rapeseed output is surpassed only by wheat, oats, and barley. Cultivation and processing as well as the history of this crop are discussed.

Supplemental Value Of Feed Grade Biuret And Urea-Molasses For Cows On Dry Winter Grass, Ivan G. Rush, Robert Totusek
Supplemental Value Of Feed Grade Biuret And Urea-Molasses For Cows On Dry Winter Grass, Ivan G. Rush, Robert Totusek
Panhandle Research and Extension Center
Four trials were conducted to evaluate the supplemental value of feed grade biuret (in dry supplements) and urea (in liquid urea-molasses mixtures) when compared to natural protein and urea in dry supplements for beef cows grazing low quality dry winter range grass. Urea or feed grade biuret provided 50% of the nitrogen in 30% CP dry supplements and urea provided 50% of the nitrogen in 30% CP dry supplements and urea provided 94% of the nitrogen in 30% CP liquid supplements. Dry supplements were self-fed with salt added to limit intake.
Winter weight loss of cows fed dry urea-containing supplements …
