Democracy Requires Good Law Libraries – With Books, Franklin L. Runge
Democracy Requires Good Law Libraries – With Books, Franklin L. Runge
Library Scholarship
In this brief commentary, the author argues for the continued presence of a print collection in law libraries because (1) law libraries serve as a fail-safe for democracy, (2) inexperienced researchers achieve a greater understanding of how primary law is produced when exposed to print materials, and (3) there is still a high demand for print materials in scholarly endeavors.

Ideally, you would want a database that contains everything possible. But life is not perfect, especially when you are already stranded on a deserted island. I would take a magic citator service, which provides the subseque nt history of every single primary source of law: not just cases, statutes, or regulations, but all agency decisions, trial court orders, municipal codes, and ethics opinions, etc. The one that is not only a citation index of legal resources but a “citation index” w/2 (legal-rule! or legal-standard!). May my wish come true (citator % “deserted island!”).

Discovering The Knowledge Monopoly Of Law Librarianship Under The Dikw Pyramid, Alex Zhang
Discovering The Knowledge Monopoly Of Law Librarianship Under The Dikw Pyramid, Alex Zhang
Scholarly Articles
This article uses the Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom (DIKW) pyramid to help identify the exclusive knowledge base and practical skills that law librarians must possess to solve practical problems. Paragraphs 4–24 trace the historical debates on whether law librarianship is a profession, which focus on autonomy as a key component of a profession. The consensus is that autonomy boils down to two major issues: identifying problems and providing solutions through exclusive methods that are restricted to a profession. Both require a solid and exclusive abstract knowledge base. Paragraphs 25–77 discuss the epistemological approaches employed thus far to identify a knowledge basis for library …
