Established before classes began in the Fall of 2020, throughout the pandemic this web-based resource served as a central public location for questions and answers related to UGA School of Law's reopening, classes, visiting campus, quarantine and other health-based decisions and procedures. It was maintained and updated often by the Office of Student Affairs until it was unpublished after classes concluded in Spring 2021.

Strategic Plan Documents

In 2020 a strategic plan began taking shape from UGA Law Library, in support of the emerging strategic plans from the School of Law and the University of Georgia. This five year plan states that, "The Law Library’s overall objective is to support the Law School’s strategic goals by providing exceptional instruction, research, resources, and data analytics. The Law Library supports the University and the Law School in achieving all three strategic directions for the 2020 – 2025 fiscal years."

Strategic Plan Documents

This 12-page strategic plan includes a detailed roadmap for the University of Georgia School of Law. Various strategic planning groups and committees worked to craft this plan beginning in 2019, and to refine and approve it over the course of 2020 when the University shared its own strategic planning documents. The School of Law shared the draft with faculty and staff by way of the law school's portal as a PDF on July 14, 2020, and later submitted the plan to the University of Georgia in October of 2020. This article describes the multi-faceted approach UGA Law Library took with their fall 2018 first year student orientation. It describes the process of the creating a virtual tour experience, pairing it with a hybrid face-to-face event, and assessing the impact of all aspects of the orientation. The creation of the video itself involved a multi-media approach using a combination of visual arts and technology to animate a product that has a longer expiration than traditional video or in-person library orientations offer.

Of Mind Maps And Makerspaces: Technology Approach To Law Teaching, Sharon Bradley

Mind maps and makerspaces are two potential approaches to instruction that might inject a little fun and zing into the classroom. Mind maps are a more visual or graphical tool for teaching analysis, problem solving, and decision-making. Makerspaces embrace Langdell’s model of the law library as the “laboratory” of the law school. A makerspace could allow students to experiment, create, and learn to evaluate the “benefits and risks associated with relevant technology,” as reflected in the recent change to Rule 1.1 of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct.

Increasingly librarians are teaching many, if not all, of the legal research courses at their law schools. Most librarians are not experts in education assessment design. Assessment with rubrics creates a learner centric environments in which instructors objectively evaluate student progress and assures that students receive consistent and meaningful feedback. Rubrics provide both students and instructors with a clear understanding of whether learning outcomes have been achieved. Guided by the instructors' experience and an in-depth review of the literature law librarians will be exposed to the best practices when creating rubrics including alignment with the course goals and instructor expectations.

The most significant challenge externship programs face is “insufficient administrative support,” followed closely by “other demands on the faculty’s time,” according to the CSALE survey. And the pressure is only getting worse. The increased record keeping requirements of Standard 304(c), increased student participation due to the ABA’s 6-credit experiential learning requirement and new paid externship positions, plus the ever-present pressure of tight budgets, together are driving the need to find innovative approaches to these mounting administrative burdens.

Through these interactive exercises, students get the opportunity to practice responses in a setting that fosters student development and growth. With the adoption of ABA Standards 302 and 315, law schools are now required to establish institutional learning outcomes for their graduates and measure whether their graduates are achieving competency in those outcomes. Given this mandate, all law schools will need to determine the best method to measure whether they are meeting these articulated outcomes. This session will focus on the role that clinical education and externships, specifically, can have in the assessment of institutional learning outcomes. It was approved by faculty members on August 19, 2009 to serve as a 10 year guide for the institution. Distributed with this booklet was a letter hand-written by professor Dan T. Coenen on May 21, 2010 and addressed to members of the Strategic Planning Committee. This letter is included below as an attached document to provide context for the extensive strategic planning text.
