The Equity and Diversity Committee of the Faculty of Law derives its mandate from the Faculty Council of Windsor Law. The Committee was set up in 2010 to address equity and diversity related issues at Windsor Law. The Committee is delighted to read the LSUC’s Consultation paper on Developing Strategies for Change: Addressing Challenges Faced by Racialized Licensees (Consultation paper) and especially the strategies proposed in that report to change inequities entrenched in our legal profession.

Soapbox: Racial Profiling Is An Epidemic In Canada, Sujith Xavier

Racial profiling is an epidemic in Canada. Experts recognize racial profiling’s limitations as a policing tool. Social science researchers and lawyers suggest that racial profiling is an affront to our human rights and dignity. Much more importantly, it is unconstitutional and contrary to our shared values rooted in pluralism and fundamental freedoms. Law enforcement officials and the public nonetheless seem prepared to look past these concerns because it is necessary to protect the public from serious harm.

The symposium sought to explore critical race theory1 and its praxis within the Canadian legal academy by inviting emerging scholars and practitioners to engage with the scholarship of Professor Patricia Williams.
