The Journal of Business, Entrepreneurship & the Law
This article will discuss the economic backdrop against which legislation was enacted to spur economic development in distressed areas, focusing on the creation of the Opportunity Zones program established by Congress in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. The first half of the article will provide an in-depth analysis of the Opportunity Zone incentive and consider its procedures and implications, including the tax benefits of the program and the necessary criteria to be qualified for its benefits. The Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) presents an unprecedented opportunity for African integration and is projected to spur unprecedented levels of job growth and productivity, and to drive sustainable economic development. However, as the implementation of the AfCFTA unfolds, it is apparent that certain bottlenecks stand in the way of the AfCFTA achieving its full potential. The bottleneck at the core of the AfCFTA’s effective implementation is the limited availability of tradable goods due to the limited productive capacity of many State Parties. Decolonizing Reservation Economies: Returning To Private Enterprise And Trade, Adam Crepelle
The Journal of Business, Entrepreneurship & the Law
Tribes can solve many of their socioeconomic problems by embracing their traditional economic practices. Transforming reservation conditions begins by tribes enacting laws and developing institutions that are conducive to private enterprise. Similarly, tribes must embrace trade—both with foreign nations and other tribes. By returning to trade-based economies and adopting laws that facilitate private enterprise, tribes can decolonize reservation economies. The rest of the article proceeds as follows. Part I discusses Indian economic practices prior to European contact and examines the United States’ various Indian policies, removal to the present-day self-determination era. Realizing The Re-Emergence Of The Chinese Stock Market: Fact Or Fiction?, Ann P. Vandevelde

The stock market which currently exists in the People's Republic of China (PRC) is a product of the "open door policy" introduced by Deng Xiaoping in 1978, following the death of Mao Zedong, to promote economic development over class struggle. Following limited experimentation with stock issuance at the local level, the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges opened in 1990 and 1991 respectively. Since its recent inception, China's stock market--which comprises the trading of domestically owned A-Shares and foreign-owned B-Shares--has experienced impressive growth together with periods of volatility as well as lackluster performance.
