Our Changing Reality: The Metaverse And The Importance Of Privacy Regulations In The United States, Anushkay Raza

This Note discusses the legal and pressing digital challenges that arise in connection with the growing use of virtual reality, and more specifically, the metaverse. As this digital realm becomes more integrated into our daily lives, the United States should look towards creating a federal privacy law that protects fundamental individual privacy rights. This Note argues that congress should emulate the European Union's privacy regulations, and further, balances the potential consequences and benefits of adapting European regulations within the United Sates. For nearly half a century, the United States has been one of the main proponents of harmonizing the world’s copyright laws. To that end, the U.S. government has worked diligently to persuade (and, in some cases, bully) most of the world’s countries to adopt copyright standards that resemble those found in the United States. In 2019, the European Parliament and Council passed Directive 2019/790. The Directive’s passage marked the end of a fouryear- long legislative attempt to impose more liability for copyright violations on Online Service Providers, an effort which was controversial from the start. Online Service Providers fear that the 2019 Directive, especially its Article 17, will completely change the structure of liability on the Internet, forcing providers to adopt expensive content filtering systems. Seeing Color: Implications Of The European Union's New Common Practice For Transatlantic Trademark Registration By United States Trademark Holders, Christine Park

This Note explores two issues related to the EU’s new common practice: (1) whether the new common practice will deter ongoing efforts to integrate trademark registration and protection at the international level; and (2) whether U.S. trademark holders, when expanding business into the EU, should register through the Madrid Protocol and obtain Community Trade Mark or register through a country’s trademark office. This Note argues that the new trademark practice hinders international efforts for standardizing trademark registration and that U.S. trademark holders should claim color when registering their marks with the EU.

The ability to harness energy is fundamental to economic and social development. Worldwide, almost 3 billion people have little or no access to beneficial energy resources for cooking, heating, water sanitation, illumination, transportation, or basic mechanical needs. Energy poverty exacerbates ill health and economic hardship, and reduces educational opportunities, particularly for women and children. Specifically, access to efficient and affordable energy services is a prerequisite for achieving the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) relating to poverty eradication.

This paper examines the current trends in a predominantly sectoral U.S. privacy regime that appears to be becoming more comprehensive in nature with respect to data privacy protection. This trend has been greatly attributed to the European Union's comprehensive position on data privacy protection. This paper investigates the growth in U.S. data privacy protection in relation to federal and state legislative history, federal administrative procedures, and private industry efforts. This shift from sectoral to comprehensive regimes is significant in the backdrop of U.S-EU trade relations.
