Although many artists build their careers by offending or challenging mainstream culture and live happily as outsiders, these and all artists still strive to protect their reputations and the integrity of their works. The importance of protecting the moral rights of artists has long been recognized by European law, but the United States has not embraced the value of artists’ rights in the same way.
