Books
This is rather the first book with a title "Philosophy of Law in the Arctic" in the literature. This philosophy of law is a very wide and cross-disciplinary area of research: between law, philosophy, anthropology, history, cultural ecology or environmental studies. I have no doubts that we have done such kind of philosophy in the academia so far, not using this term, but keeping up with the concept, the idea.
The book is a result of research conducted by many members of the Sub-group of Philosophy of Law in the Arctic (the University of the Arctic). This team seems a …

The Eureka Myth: Creators, Innovators, And Everyday Intellectual Property, Jessica Silbey
The Eureka Myth: Creators, Innovators, And Everyday Intellectual Property, Jessica Silbey
Books
Are innovation and creativity helped or hindered by our intellectual property laws? In the two hundred plus years since the Constitution enshrined protections for those who create and innovate, we're still debating the merits of IP laws and whether or not they actually work as intended. Artists, scientists, businesses, and the lawyers who serve them, as well as the Americans who benefit from their creations all still wonder: what facilitates innovation and creativity in our digital age? And what role, if any, do our intellectual property laws play in the growth of innovation and creativity in the United States?
Incentivizing …

An Ethical Education: Community And Morality In The Multicultural University, Mortimer N.S. Sellers
Books
This book considers the ethical basis of fundamental university policies with special emphasis on how issues of community and diversity influence education. The authors raise four central questions in this volume:
- What should the aims of universities be, given their changed demography?
- How should university curricula reflect multicultural society?
- Does the new environment require special treatment of campus speech?
- What role should affirmative action play in promoting diversity or community in the academy?
Current Studies In Japanese Law, Whitmore Gray, Kazuo Sugeno, Walter L. Ames, Ronald G. Brown, Richard O. Briggs
Current Studies In Japanese Law, Whitmore Gray, Kazuo Sugeno, Walter L. Ames, Ronald G. Brown, Richard O. Briggs
Books
Over the past fifteen years there has been a remarkable growth in the study of Japanese law in the United States. The foundation was laid during the late 1950's when the Harvard-Michigan-Stanford program brought together Japanese legal specialists and their American counterparts for study and research. At the end of this program a major conference was held, and the resulting publication, Law in Japan, continues to serve as a point of departure in descriptive studies of Japanese law.
During the 1960's interest in Japan continued to develop among law faculty members, but an even more important development was the increase …
The Law Of Sales, John Barker Waite
The Law Of Sales, John Barker Waite
Books
I conceive law to be the aggregation of rules which courts of justice feel themselves more or less obligated to follow in deciding controversies. To some extent these rules are formulated and declared by legislative authority. Most of them, however, have been evolved by judges themselves. These latter rules are not always easy to formulate; if they were, there would be no need for real text-books. Even the precise utterances of various judges can not always be accepted as rules. I believe that no judge has power, either practically or theoretically, to bind other judges by any declaration of rule …
