Status Of Nuclear Security Education And Research In Bangladesh And Looking Forward, Md. Shafiqul Islam, Md. Mobasher Ahmed
International Journal of Nuclear Security
Bangladesh uses category I of nuclear materials and category 1-5 of radioactive materials in the field of research, medical and industries. The Government is going to implement its first nuclear power plant under an IGA between the Bangladesh and Russian Governments. With the emerging global nuclear and radiological terrorism by potential adversaries, enhancing nuclear security is the paramount importance for the country. The paper has found no established communication channels among stakeholders in order to work in a coordinated and collaborative manner for strengthening the nuclear security. This has resulted lacking importance of education, research, training and knowledge management initiatives …

These analyses, arranged as a mosaic article, emerged from the collaboration of five law students, a practicing lawyer, and two clinical law teachers. In the years since our work began, the students have graduated and are practicing or teaching. We have continued to correspond, exchanging ideas and drafts from time to time, in subgroups or as an ensemble. Although the separate tiles of the mosaic are attributed to the members of the group primarily responsible for crafting them, all parts of the article reflect the work and thinking of the whole group.

The Uneasy Case For The Retirement Of Douglas Kahn, Jeffrey H. Kahn
The Uneasy Case For The Retirement Of Douglas Kahn, Jeffrey H. Kahn
Michigan Business & Entrepreneurial Law Review
In the fall semester of 1964, a young Douglas Kahn joined the faculty of the University of Michigan Law School. During the spring semester of 2016, he will teach his final course as a full-time faculty member. For the interim fifty two years, he has been a fixture of the Michigan law school community. As a tax professor, former student, and his son, I am pleased and honored to write this introduction for an edition of the Michigan Business & Entrepreneurial Law Review honoring Professor Kahn’s tenure at the University of Michigan.

Sources Of American Law: An Introduction To Legal Research, Tina M. Brooks, Beau Steenken
Tina M. Brooks
At its most basic definition the practice of law comprises conducting research to find relevant rules of law and then applying those rules to the specific set of circumstances faced by a client. However, in American law, the legal rules to be applied derive from myriad sources, complicating the process and making legal research different from other sorts of research. This text introduces first-year law students to the new kind of research required to study and to practice law. It seeks to demystify the art of legal research by following a “Source and Process” approach. First, the text introduces students …

When Meaningful Writing Reflects Vincentian Values, Michele Eodice, Anne Ellen Geller, Neal Lerner
Journal of Vincentian Social Action
In The Meaningful Writing Project – our study of over 700 seniors at three universities – students describe how education values are embodied in writing projects in and out of school. In brief, our results show that students find meaning when they are invited to tap into the power of personal connection, see what they are writing as applicable and relevant to the real world, imagine their future selves, immerse themselves in what they are thinking and writing about, and experience research for learning. In many cases, the experiences students reported are aligned with Vincentian values for higher education, namely …

Reconsidering Constitutional Protection For Health Information Privacy, Wendy K. Mariner
Reconsidering Constitutional Protection For Health Information Privacy, Wendy K. Mariner
Faculty Scholarship
What kinds of health information should be reported to government for civil purposes? Several competing trends encourage efforts to reassess the scope of constitutional protection for health information: the social and commercial value of health information; the amount of data held by third parties, from health care providers to internet servers; critiques of the third party doctrine exception to Fourth Amendment protection; and concerns about the loss of privacy. This article describes a variety of civil purposes for which health information is collected today. A close analysis of cases applying the third party doctrine, administrative search principles, and the special …

Neuroimaging And Jury Decision Making: In Defense Of The Defense?, Alana A. Snyder
Neuroimaging And Jury Decision Making: In Defense Of The Defense?, Alana A. Snyder
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Neurobiological evidence in the form of brain scans (MRI images, PET images, etc.) is being introduced with increasing frequency in the courtroom as potentially mitigating evidence in criminal cases as part of an attempt to show regions of neurological abnormality affecting a defendant’s decision-making or emotional control. Empirical studies have shown two biases associated with the presentation of such evidence. One of these biases resides in that laypeople’s interpretation of such evidence may be weighted too heavily towards scientific fact – as is DNA evidence – rather than an association between a specific crime, and a brain region and its …
