Alexander Campbell King Law Library Strategic Plan, 2018-2019, University Of Georgia Law Library

Strategic Plan Documents

In 2018 a strategic plan emerged from UGA Law Library, having been revised in 2017. This two year plan set a short time frame for guidance due to the expiration of the School of Law's strategic plan from 2009 in 2019. The University of Georgia as a whole was also gearing up for an institution-wide strategic planning push in 2019 to launch in 2020. This 18-19 plan from the library was more succinct than ever before, and in keeping with the previous plan iteration, generated a text version for the website and an infographic-style version for print.

Alexander Campbell King Law Library Strategic Plan, 2016-2017, University Of Georgia Law Library

Strategic Plan Documents

Shorter and simpler than the two previous iterations, the University of Georgia Law Library's 2016-2017 strategic plan is a single page. It includes elements from the last version such as mission, vision and values. It still includes goals, but limits them to three and trims the text of each into straight-forward bullet-list objectives including: 1. Services, 2. Resources, and 3. Expertise. This year was also the first that the law library created a counter-part infographic version of their strategic plan. It is attached below as an additional document.

By now, the story surrounding the death of Baltimore man Freddie Gray while in police custody is common knowledge. A series of protests afterward and emergency responses by state and local governments turned the lives of many of Baltimore’s residents upside-down for more than a week in late April and early May, including the staff at the law libraries at the University of Baltimore School of Law (UB Law) and the Thurgood Marshall Law Library at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law (Carey Law). The mood got progressively uglier as the days wore on until, just …

Library Director As Opportunity Identifier, Ronald E. Wheeler Jan 2015

Library Director As Opportunity Identifier, Ronald E. Wheeler

Faculty Scholarship

A successful contemporary law library director should seek opportunities to insert the law library, wherever possible, into projects that benefit the law school and its mission and that draw on the talents and expertise of the law librarians. The goal of the modern law library director should be to make the law library an integral part of each and every undertaking within the law school community. Every facet of the law school and its various departments and offices can benefit from either law library research and instructional services or the creative thinking and analytical orientation that librarians bring to the …

Changing Spaces, Lauren M. Collins Sep 2014

Changing Spaces, Lauren M. Collins

Law Faculty Articles and Essays

As print collections shrink in favor of the electronic delivery of information, library space—once needed to hold the volumes we counted on to justify our existence—is no longer necessary for that purpose. Those who manage law libraries with large footprints are regularly asked to justify the continued maintenance of space that houses much smaller collections. Even those with smaller library spaces find themselves, at the very least, with more space than they had before and facing decisions about its use. This article discusses the ways in which several law libraries have altered their spaces while also adding to students' learning, …

Alexander Campbell King Law Library Strategic Plan, 2012-2015, University Of Georgia Law Library

Strategic Plan Documents

The University of Georgia Law Library created a three page strategic planning document to serve as their guide from 2012 to 2015. This plan was much shorter than the previous plan, with four major goals instead of five. Each goal still contained objectives, and at the start of the plan the library separately identified a clear mission and vision statement with values up front and strategic areas preceding each goal.
