The Adoption Trilemma: The Adult Adoptee's Emerging Search For His Ancestral Identity, Marshall A. Levin

In 1974, while presiding over Circuit Court Number 2 of Baltimore City, a court having jurisdiction over domestic relations cases, the author was struck by the searing emotionalism often arising when adoptees' quests to learn about their genealogical heritage were frustrated by Maryland's "sealed record" rule, which denies adoptees access to the records of their adoption proceedings except upon an order of court (which, in effect, means a showing of "good cause"). In this Article, the author critically examines such rules (and similar statutes) in light of the interests of the parties to the adoption process. He recommends that these …

Confirmation Of Out-Of-State Arbitration Awards Under Maryland's Uniform Arbitration Act, Gary I. Strausberg

University of Baltimore Law Review

This Article examines the difficulties inherent in the confirmation of out-of-state arbitration awards under the Maryland Uniform Arbitration Act. The author recommends that either the General Assembly amend the Act to provide expressly for such confirmations in Maryland courts, or the courts, in the absence of such legislation, nevertheless should allow confirmation of such awards.

Homosexual Rights: The Law In Flux And Conflict, Kenneth Lasson

This Article examines the recent surge in litigation arising from homosexuals' assertions of Constitutional rights. The author concludes that the recent cases reflect substantial judicial confusion, and suggests that both Constitutional principles and libertarian philosophy generally require resolution of the conflicts in favor of equality without regard for sexual preference.
