First, the essay acknowledges that the current use of technology in most law school classrooms lacks appeal to today’s students. In response to the demands of prospective law students, pressure from outside law organizations, and forces from within the legal academy, law schools are offering more skills training for students and more job security for Legal Methods professors. As a result, Legal Methods professors’ primary responsibilities in the legal academy are changing from a single focus of teaching to a dual focus of teaching and scholarship. Students’ reactions to feedback are intriguing. Why is it that some students resist, and in fact almost resent, receiving suggestions for improving their work while others are grateful and clamor for more help? This short article examines the role of gratitude in legal education. It suggests that students who engage in disciplined optimism, i.e., positive attitude and hard work, are more likely to succeed in law school than students who avoid feedback and self-handicap their efforts.

This article provides editing tips and advice for editors of other people’s writing. It starts with the premise that editing other writers’ work requires many of the same skills as self-editing. It goes on to suggest, however, that in addition to using those skills, editors should adopt several unique strategies to more efficiently revise other writers’ drafts. It recommends that lawyers as editors take on the roles of reader, manager, coach, and copy editor. The article also provides editing advice for lawyers to follow as they comment on other writers’ drafts.

This article examines how blogging has developed and considers the ethics of blogging and its impact on the legal profession. It examines blog entries from lawyers, law professors and law students and suggests that the rules of the Bar may be colliding with the manner of online storytelling occurring by legal professionals. The article takes an in-depth look at how blogging has impacted legal education and the relationship between faculty and students.
