This essay examines how law school education can be modernized through the use of technology. First, the essay acknowledges that the current use of technology in most law school classrooms lacks appeal to today’s students. It briefly explores the use of PowerPoints, podcasts, and clickers and suggests that students have grown bored with this technological trio because of overuse and familiarity. How Students’ Gratitude For Feedback Can Identify The Right Attitude For Success: Disciplined Optimism, Anna Hemingway

Students’ reactions to feedback are intriguing. Why is it that some students resist, and in fact almost resent, receiving suggestions for improving their work while others are grateful and clamor for more help? This short article examines the role of gratitude in legal education. It suggests that students who engage in disciplined optimism, i.e., positive attitude and hard work, are more likely to succeed in law school than students who avoid feedback and self-handicap their efforts.

When You're The Editor: Editing The Writing Of Other Lawyers Uses Skills Similar To Those Applied In Editing Your Own Writing But Also Requires 'Additional Roles', Anna Hemingway, Jennifer Lear

This article provides editing tips and advice for editors of other people’s writing. It starts with the premise that editing other writers’ work requires many of the same skills as self-editing. It goes on to suggest, however, that in addition to using those skills, editors should adopt several unique strategies to more efficiently revise other writers’ drafts. It recommends that lawyers as editors take on the roles of reader, manager, coach, and copy editor. The article also provides editing advice for lawyers to follow as they comment on other writers’ drafts.

This article explains how practitioners’ briefs filed in cases law students are currently studying can be used in the classroom to enhance legal education. It provides pedagogical reasons, such as increased student interest and richer appreciation of the legal process, for why these documents should become part of the law school curriculum. This article examines how blogging has developed and considers the ethics of blogging and its impact on the legal profession. It examines blog entries from lawyers, law professors and law students and suggests that the rules of the Bar may be colliding with the manner of online storytelling occurring by legal professionals. The article takes an in-depth look at how blogging has impacted legal education and the relationship between faculty and students. It proposes ways in which incorporating blogging assignments into law school courses can assist students in developing ethical story-telling on web logs.
