Optimizing Critical Values And Combining Axes For Multi-Axial Neck Injury Criteria, Ethan J. Gaston
Optimizing Critical Values And Combining Axes For Multi-Axial Neck Injury Criteria, Ethan J. Gaston
Theses and Dissertations
The Air Force employs ejection seats in its high-performance aircraft. While these systems are intended to ensure aircrew safety, the ejection process subjects the aircrew to potentially injurious forces. System validation includes evaluation of forces against a standard which is linked to the probability of injury. The Muti-Axial Neck Injury Criteria (MANIC) was developed to account for forces in all six degrees of freedom. Unfortunately, the MANIC is applied to each of the three linear input directions separately and applies different criterion values for each direction. These three separate criteria create a lack of clarity regarding acceptable neck loading, leading …
Bbq Grill Temperature Uniformity Study, Monty Dodge Jr, Samuel Melo
Bbq Grill Temperature Uniformity Study, Monty Dodge Jr, Samuel Melo
Mechanical Engineering
Bull Outdoor Products, Incorporated, a barbeque grill and outdoor kitchen manufacturer, sponsored this project with the intent of improving the temperature uniformity across the surface of their barbecue grills. For this project, the Cal Poly team of mechanical engineering students, Monty Dodge Jr. and Samuel Melo, used the Brahma grill head model with setups for both natural gas and propane. In order to determine exactly what the uniformity across the grill surface was, the student team designed a testing apparatus which would measure a grid of temperature locations one inch apart spanning an area 16 by 36 inches. Developing a …
Developing An Optimal Model For Infant Home Visitation, Isaac Atuahene
Developing An Optimal Model For Infant Home Visitation, Isaac Atuahene
Doctoral Dissertations
The United States, Great Britain, Denmark, Canada and many other countries have accepted home visitation (HV) as a promising strategy for interventions for infants after births and for their mothers. Prior HV studies have focused on theoretical foundations, evaluations of programs, cost/benefit analysis and cost estimation by using hospital/payer/insurance data to prove its effectiveness and high cost. As governments and private organizations continue to fund HVs, it is an opportune time to develop and formulate operations research (OR) models of HV coverage, quality and cost so they might be used in program implementation as done for adult home healthcare (HHC) …
Optimization Of Acid Production In Food Waste Via Anaerobic Respiration, Charles Daniels, Raymond Red Corn, Abigail S. Engelberth Phd.
Optimization Of Acid Production In Food Waste Via Anaerobic Respiration, Charles Daniels, Raymond Red Corn, Abigail S. Engelberth Phd.
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Symposium
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, one third of all food produced in world is wasted; 1.63 * 109 metric tons of nutrition is lost to transportation, contamination, or neglect every year (FAO 2013). This wasted food, however, could be repurposed as a substrate for microbial conversion into useful chemicals. This research is aimed at finding the optimal conditions for bacterial colonies to generate volatile fatty acids (VFAs): resources that are used as solvents, medicines, and chemical intermediates usually generated from petroleum based resources (Drumright et al., 2000) (Roscher 2000) (Kolt et al., 2007). …
Modeling Preventive Maintenance In Complex Systems, Jessica Rivas
Modeling Preventive Maintenance In Complex Systems, Jessica Rivas
Open Access Theses
This thesis presents an explicit consideration of the impacts of modeling decisions on the resulting maintenance planning. Incomplete data is common in maintenance planning, but is rarely considered explicitly. Robust optimization aims to minimize the impact of uncertainty--here, in contrast, I show how its impact can be explicitly quantified. Doing so allows decision makers to determine whether it is worthwhile to invest in reducing uncertainty about the system or the effect of maintenance. The thesis consists of two parts. Part I uses a case study to show how incomplete data arises and how the data can be used to derive …
Economic Modeling & Optimization Of A Region Specific Multi-Feedstock Biorefinery Supply Chain, William H. Faulkner
Economic Modeling & Optimization Of A Region Specific Multi-Feedstock Biorefinery Supply Chain, William H. Faulkner
Theses and Dissertations--Manufacturing Systems Engineering
The objective of this thesis is to include strategic and tactical level decisions into the biorefinery supply chain design for a specific region while comparing multiple conversion technologies and biomass feedstocks. The allocation of biomass feedstocks, products, and the respective supply chain configuration locations are determined while ensuring the regions monthly biomass availability and product market demand constraints are met. This research considers all actions required to bring the bio-based products to market from harvesting, storing, and processing the biomass to market distribution. Two different conversion technologies are chosen for comparison: one advanced conversion technology and one conventional technology. Potential …
Optimization Of Municipal Solid Waste Management In Port Said, Mohamed Fathy Abd El-Rahman Mohamed Badran
Optimization Of Municipal Solid Waste Management In Port Said, Mohamed Fathy Abd El-Rahman Mohamed Badran
Archived Theses and Dissertations
This thesis is done at the American University in Cairo, and titled "Optimization of Municipal Solid Waste Management in Port Said". This thesis is presented by Mohamed Fathy Abd El-Rahman Mohamed Badran, under the supervision of Dr. Salah El-Haggar. Optimization of solid waste management systems was not applied to any Egyptian govemorate using any operational research methodologies. A new concept is arising in the collection activity of municipal solid waste management which is the use of collection stations. This concept was not used in Egypt. In this work, a proposed model for the municipal solid waste management system in Port …
