Fire Protection Analysis Project – 9220 Zanzibar Lane Maple Grove, Mn, Brian Vandal

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report contains an analysis of the life safety and fire protection features of a four-story apartment building in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The report is a part of the final project intended to meet the requirements for the Culminating Experience of the California Polytechnic Master of Science Fire Protection Engineering Program.

The apartment building chosen for the analysis is a mixed-use four-story wood-framed structure. The first floor of this structure includes office space for building management, a meeting space, and various electrical and mechanical spaces as well as apartments. There are exit stairways on each end of the structure extending …

Fire Protection Analysis For The Tritium Engineering Building, Jack Smeck Jun 2021

Fire Protection Analysis For The Tritium Engineering Building, Jack Smeck

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report analyzed several different aspects of the fire protection and life safety strategy for the Tritium Engineering Building (TEB) at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC. The TEB is a single-story, Type IIB building that primarily houses engineering and technical staff. The building is approximately 15,560 ft2 and consists of two large “open areas” enclosed by hard- wall offices. Modular workstations are located in both “open areas” and accommodate the majority of the building occupants. This analysis provided both a prescriptive and a performance-based approach for analyzing fire hazards within the building. The prescriptive- based analysis evaluated the …

Fire Protection And Life Safety Analysis: Canyon Vista Dining Renovation- University Of California San Diego, Paul Ian Jungco Cabasag Jun 2021

Fire Protection And Life Safety Analysis: Canyon Vista Dining Renovation- University Of California San Diego, Paul Ian Jungco Cabasag

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The Canyon Vista Dining project is a renovation of an existing two-story dining facility located in the Warren College area of the University of California San Diego campus for the owners, Housing, Dining and Hospitality. The renovation scope of work comprised a new dining experience with a better diversity of food options and indoor and outdoor seating, which upgraded the first floor, second floor, and mechanical penthouse. In the course of the design and construction, the prescriptive, performance, wildfire, and due diligence design results were utilized during discussions with design team and building permit approval. The project construction was completed …

Fire Protection Analysis Of Johnson Controls Office Building, Derek Driscoll Jun 2021

Fire Protection Analysis Of Johnson Controls Office Building, Derek Driscoll

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This project report contains a fire and life safety analysis of the Johnson Controls Office Building. The building is located in Los Angeles, California. The building is a mixed use occupancy with office spaces, meeting rooms, training rooms, and a warehouse for storing fire sprinkler and fire alarm materials. The building is one level with a mezzanine. It is attached to another building and separated by fire barrier so that they are considered separate buildings. This report contains a prescriptive analysis and a performance-based design analysis of the building.

The prescriptive code requirements were determined based on the 2019 edition …

Fire Protection And Life Safety Analysis Of A Chicago Hotel, Thomas Hampton Jun 2020

Fire Protection And Life Safety Analysis Of A Chicago Hotel, Thomas Hampton

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The following report contains an analysis of the life safety and fire protection features of a Chicago Hotel. The report is intended to meet the requirements for the Culminating Experience of the Cal Poly Master of Science Fire Protection Engineering Program.

The Chicago Hotel building chosen for the analysis is a mixed-use 7-story hotel. On the 1st, 2nd, and 7th floors of the building are spaces for mercantile and restaurant tenants as well as other spaces necessary for the operation of the building such as back of house space for the hotel, storage, employee locker rooms, hotel and retail lobbies, …

University Student Services Center, Ivan Orlando Mendoza Jun 2018

University Student Services Center, Ivan Orlando Mendoza

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The building was found to be generally compliant with the requirements set forth in the codes and standards, any discrepancies are addressed within the report in their respective sections. The prescriptive-based analysis was performed using the appropriate NFPA standards, the Life Safety Code (LSC) and the International Building Code (IBC).

The building is three storied and has an overall gross floor area of 101,579 sq ft. It is classified as a mixed occupancy use with a calculated total occupant load of 2,866 occupants and is being evaluated as a Type II-B structure as defined in the IBC. It is protected …

Orange Grove Library- Prescriptive And Performance-Based Fire And Life Safety Evaluation, David A. Boackle Jun 2016

Orange Grove Library- Prescriptive And Performance-Based Fire And Life Safety Evaluation, David A. Boackle

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report describes the analysis of the Orange Grove Library in Gulfport, Mississippi, using prescriptive and performance-based techniques to evaluate fire and life safety. The prescriptive analysis is broken down into four components: alarm, egress, structural and suppression. Prescriptive codes are written by consensus, such that adhering to these codes will produce a reasonable balance between cost, function and safety. The performance-based design analysis uses analytical tools to predict how this particular building would perform under specific fire conditions, chosen based on the actual building in place. Life safety is the primary goal of this analysis. Achievement of this goal …

Fire Protection Engineering Analysis For Building 910 - Sandia National Labs/Ca, Mo Mosallaei Jun 2015

Fire Protection Engineering Analysis For Building 910 - Sandia National Labs/Ca, Mo Mosallaei

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This Fire Protection Engineering analysis was performed on Building 910 in Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA to examine the building’s fire safety and fire protection criteria which originally adhered to the 1985 Uniform Building Code. The object of this analysis is to determine the degree of compliance with the prescriptive codes in place today as well compliance with performance based analysis. For the prescriptive analysis consisted of evaluating the buildings occupancy classification, type of construction, egress design, fire detection and alarm systems, fire sprinkler system, Halon System, and structural fire protection are evaluated in terms of the life safety …

Laboratory Building- Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, Nm, Joshua Herrera Mar 2015

Laboratory Building- Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, Nm, Joshua Herrera

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The purpose of the culminating report was to perform a prescriptive-based and performance-based analysis on the fire and life safety systems in the laboratory building at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). The prescriptive-based analysis determined if the laboratory building met applicable code requirements for life safety systems. The performance-based analysis conducted a series of fire scenarios to ensure the fire and life safety systems provided adequate egress time for occupants in the event of a fire. The prescriptive-based analysis was based on the Life Safety Code (LSC) and International Building Code (IBC). The laboratory building is a mixed occupancy building. The …
