Strategies For Implementing Internet Of Things Devices In Manufacturing Environments, Todd Efrain Hernandez Jan 2021

Strategies For Implementing Internet Of Things Devices In Manufacturing Environments, Todd Efrain Hernandez

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Internet of Things (IoT) has been exploited as a threat vector for cyberattacks in manufacturing environments. Manufacturing industry leaders are concerned with cyberattacks because of the associated costs of damages and lost production for their organizations. Grounded in the general systems theory, the purpose of this multiple case study was to explore strategies electrical controls engineers use to implement secure IoT devices in manufacturing environments. The study participants were eight electrical controls engineers working in three separate manufacturing facilities located in the Midwest region of the United States. The data were collected by semistructured interviews and 15 organizational documents. …

Maquiladoras In Central America: An Analysis Of Workforce Schedule, Productivity And Fatigue., Jose L. Barahona Jul 2019

Maquiladoras In Central America: An Analysis Of Workforce Schedule, Productivity And Fatigue., Jose L. Barahona

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Textile factories or Maquiladoras are very abundant and predominant in Central American economies. However, they all do not have the same standardized work schedule or routines. Most of the Maquiladoras only follow schedules and regulations established by the current labor laws without taking into consideration many variables within their organization that could affect their overall performance. As a result, the purpose of the study is to analyze the current working structure of a textile Maquiladora and determine the most suitable schedule that will abide with the current working structure but also increase production levels, employee morale and decrease employee fatigue. …

Modeling & Simulation Technology In Manufacturing, Zhang Lin, Longfei Zhou Jun 2018

Modeling & Simulation Technology In Manufacturing, Zhang Lin, Longfei Zhou

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: With the continuous deepening of the application of information technology in the manufacturing field, the informatization of manufacturing systems is developing from unit digital manufacturing to integration networked manufacturing, and then to the comprehensive digital, networked and intelligent manufacturing. As a comprehensive information technology integrating computer, model theory, and scientific computing, modeling & simulation technology plays an irreplaceable role during the development of manufacturing informatization and is widely applied in all phases of the whole product lifecycle, such as design, manufacturing, testing, maintenance, purchase, sales and other phase. This paper reviews and summarizes the research and application of modeling …

Design The Capacity Of Onsite Generation System With Renewable Sources For Manufacturing Plant, Xiao Zhong, Md Monirul Islam, Haoyi Xiong, Zeyi Sun Nov 2017

Design The Capacity Of Onsite Generation System With Renewable Sources For Manufacturing Plant, Xiao Zhong, Md Monirul Islam, Haoyi Xiong, Zeyi Sun

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

The utilization of onsite generation system with renewable sources in manufacturing plants plays a critical role in improving the resilience, enhancing the sustainability, and bettering the cost effectiveness for manufacturers. When designing the capacity of onsite generation system, the manufacturing energy load needs to be met and the cost for building and operating such onsite system with renewable sources are two critical factors need to be carefully quantified. Due to the randomness of machine failures and the variation of local weather, it is challenging to determine the energy load and onsite generation supply at different time periods. In this paper, …

Design Of A Custom Software Application To Monitor And Communicate Cnc Machining Process Information To Aid In Chatter Identification, Valerie Pezzullo May 2014

Design Of A Custom Software Application To Monitor And Communicate Cnc Machining Process Information To Aid In Chatter Identification, Valerie Pezzullo

All Theses

In any manufacturing environment, it is important to be able to monitor the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining process so that high quality parts can be produced in the least amount of time in order to be profitable. This involves acquiring the proper parameters needed from the machine's controller, which can prove to be difficult with proprietary machine tools that tend to limit access to the internal data collected by the controller. This closed approach to controller design also means that many technological advances that have recently become prevalent in society are not being adopted in the manufacturing industry, preventing …

The Gatekeeper And The Knowledge Environment-Who They Are, How They Work Empirical Evidences From High-Tech Manufacturing And R&D Firms, Deogratias Harorimana Jan 2012

The Gatekeeper And The Knowledge Environment-Who They Are, How They Work Empirical Evidences From High-Tech Manufacturing And R&D Firms, Deogratias Harorimana

Dr Deogratias Harorimana

Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this study was to critically study the role of the Knowledge Gatekeeper within the manufacturing and high tech selected case studies and by explaining who they are, how they work and identify and analyse the barriers to knowledge creation and knowledge sharing. Methodology: The research was guided by an inductive approach with a multiple case study strategy. Research instruments included a questionnaire and interviews from respectively 105 and 40 respondents. Findings: In the African Manufacturing context, and in absence of sophisticated technologies and highly qualified personnel, technical knowledge can be obtained from organizational …
