A Systemic Approach To Next Generation Infrastructure Data Elicitation And Planning Using Serious Gaming Methods, Ersin Ancel
A Systemic Approach To Next Generation Infrastructure Data Elicitation And Planning Using Serious Gaming Methods, Ersin Ancel
Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Infrastructure systems are vital to the functioning of our society and economy. However, these systems are increasingly complex and are more interdependent than ever, making them difficult to manage. In order to respond to increasing demand, environmental concerns, and natural and man-made threats, infrastructure systems have to adapt and transform. Traditional engineering design approaches and planning tools have proven to be inadequate when planning and managing these complex socio-technical system transitions. The design and implementation of next generation infrastructure systems require holistic methodologies, encompassing organizational and societal aspects in addition to technical factors. In order to do so, a serious …
Improving Cal Poly Space Systems Infrastructure, Tyler Richier
Improving Cal Poly Space Systems Infrastructure, Tyler Richier
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
The goal of this project was to increase the usable space for the club Cal Poly Space Systems to work on its projects, improve the safety for its members, and reduce the time it takes to manufacture its products. The project demonstrated the effectiveness of 5S in improving a workspace. Club members were measurably more comfortable in the work environment and spent less time looking for tools. Current rooms were made more professional by ridding the workplace of non-valued items and finding sensible locations for high-traffic items. Additional rooms were added and they should indisputably support club projects the upcoming …

Modern Rail Innovation In Japan, Sakdirat Kaewunruen
Sakdirat Kaewunruen
This presentation was invited by Engineers Australia to discuss the importance of railway experience in Japan. Abstract: Rail transport has become one of the most desirable and environmental-friendly means for mass transportation, especially when the up-and-coming peak oil crisis has threatened and discredited many other modes of transport (including traditional car vehicles, trucks, and air planes) from being economical, efficient and sustainable. In this presentation, the modern rail systems in Japan, which cover metro, local and high speed rails, will be discussed together with the infrastructure development, network strategy, ticketing and sources of revenues. Because Japan is the pioneer of …
