Cyber Physical Complex Networks, Modeling, Analysis, And Control, Neveen Shlayan Aug 2011

Cyber Physical Complex Networks, Modeling, Analysis, And Control, Neveen Shlayan

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

This research scrutinize various attributes of complex networks; mainly, modeling, sensing, estimation, safety analysis, and control. In this study, formal languages and finite automata are used for modeling incident management processes. Safety properties are checked in order to verify the system. This method introduces a systematic approach to incident management protocols that are governed by mostly unsystematic algorithms. A portion of the used data in this study is collected by means of radar and loop detectors. A weighted t-statistics methodology is developed in order to validate these detectors. The detector data is then used to extract travel time information where …

Implementing Reliability-Centered Maintenance Analysis In A Revised Preventive Maintenance Program For The F-15, Michael H. Martin Mar 2006

Implementing Reliability-Centered Maintenance Analysis In A Revised Preventive Maintenance Program For The F-15, Michael H. Martin

Theses and Dissertations

Reliability-centered maintenance is an approach to analyzing how and when equipment fails in order to maintain a desired level of performance or functionality. It employs the use of failure modes, effects and criticality analysis to rank order potential failures, and combines this rank order with the use of a prescribed decision logic process to determine what preventive maintenance tasks should be performed and when. Reliability-centered maintenance analysis has been used by the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard, and commercial airlines to develop and update preventive maintenance programs for their aircraft for many years. While the United States …

Phase-Type Approximations For Wear Processes In A Semi-Markov Environment, Christopher J. Solo Mar 2004

Phase-Type Approximations For Wear Processes In A Semi-Markov Environment, Christopher J. Solo

Theses and Dissertations

The reliability of a single-unit system experiencing degradation (wear) due to the influence of a general, observable environment process is considered. In particular, the failure time distribution is evaluated using only observations of the unit's current operating environment which is characterized as a finite semi-Markov process (SMP). In order to impose the Markov property, generally distributed environment state sojourn times are approximated as phase-type (PH) random variables using observations of state holding times and transition rates. The use of PH distributions facilitates the use of existing analytical results for reliability evaluation of units subject to an environment process that evolves …

Optimum Component Design In N-Stange Series Systems To Maximize The Reliability Under Budget Constraint, Huseyin Gozebe Mar 2003

Optimum Component Design In N-Stange Series Systems To Maximize The Reliability Under Budget Constraint, Huseyin Gozebe

Theses and Dissertations

This research is intended to find a new heuristic for solving the reliability optimization of n-stage series system. The new heuristic will make the initial system design and use redundancy to improve system reliability level. The limited capacity of common optimization tools requires the new heuristic to be coded in VBA programming language. Moreover, the known reliability optimization heuristic, marginal analysis will be coded so that the difference between two heuristics can be seen and design engineers can use the best result in their applications.

Reliability Considerations For Communication Satellites, Frank Polizzi May 1968

Reliability Considerations For Communication Satellites, Frank Polizzi

Theses

A detailed program covering all phases of reliability for a communication satellite was presented. In long mission programs such as this one, reliability is the prime consideration in assuring a successful accomplishment of the stringent goals set forth. Reliability principles and methods were incorporated in delineating each major task in the program. These principles and methods not only aided the reliability personnel in performing their duties better, but also assisted the design group, manufacturing personnel, and the testing and evaluation group in performing their jobs efficiently by being aware and knowledgeable of reliability engineering.

Various reliability disciplines were imposed, as …
