Developing Agent-Based Simulation Models Of Task Performance Of Cognitively Diverse Teams, Megan Marie Nyre Apr 2016

Developing Agent-Based Simulation Models Of Task Performance Of Cognitively Diverse Teams, Megan Marie Nyre

Open Access Theses

Team-oriented work dominates industry, government, and academic areas with the goal of solving increasingly complex problems. However, the scope and external validity of traditional human factors research is inherently limited by the time and resources required to conduct laboratory studies. The model described in this thesis integrates simulation with human factors by providing an operationalized model that incorporates cognitive diversity and domain expertise. Convergence and functionality of the model have been established through a series of analyses, and a clear path for future research has been identified. By integrating simulation methods into human factors subject areas, researchers may be able …

Contributions By Individual And Group Strategies For Organizational Learning In Architectural, Engineering, And Construction Firms, Robert Beaver Jan 2009

Contributions By Individual And Group Strategies For Organizational Learning In Architectural, Engineering, And Construction Firms, Robert Beaver

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Organizations with multiple operating requirements require support functions to assist in execution of strategic goals. This effort, in turn, requires management of engineering activities in control of projects and in sustaining facilities. High level strategies include employing engineering support that consists of a project management function encompassing technical and managerial disciplines. The architecture/engineering, and construction office (AEC) is the subject of this research. Engineering and construction oriented organizations have experienced challenges to their abilities to learn and grow. This has potential detrimental implications for these organizations if support functions cannot keep pace with changing objectives and strategy. The competitive nature …

Looking at expertise from the vantage point of many knowledge domains allows the observations and resulting definitions to be useful across a broad range of subject areas. A stable set of definitions that work on a higher, more comprehensive level than the current literature offers is needed for an integrated description of expertise. A cohesive cross-domain definition and explanation of expertise can be used to optimise group interactions. Since group performance incorporates additional components of expertise that are not present in individual performance situations, these additional components must be examined in order to see a full picture of the successful …
