The occurrence of incidents resulting from chemical releases requires preparatory measures. Despite special layers of protection in chemicalindustries to avoid such releases and subsequent consequences, human errors still occur and negatively contribute to failures in different activities include maintenance practices and operating control and so on. It is proven that one of the most devastating risk in the oil and gas companies is explosion, particularly BLEVE. Thus, the study of this phenomena and analysis of its consequences at various stages is necessary. Recent studies claimed that the predictionof damaging effectafter the explosion by mathematical models is necessary for its effective …

A Case Study Of Quality Control Charts In A Manufacturing Industry, Fahim Ahmwdl Touqir, Md. Maksudul Islam, Lipon Kumar Sarkar

Md. Maksudul Islam

Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a powerful collection of problem solving tools and the most sophisticated useful method in achieving process stability and improving the process capability through the reduction of variability. In the manufacturing process, every product doesn’t meet the desired range of quality consistently with the customer specification. This inconsistency occurs due to several sources of variations such as machines, operators, materials etc. The Ultimate target of control chart is to monitor the variations, and subsequently control the process. On account of applying SPC methods, this study deals with the control and improvement of the quality of bolt …

Assessment System Based On Fuzzy Scoring In European Foundation For Quality Management (Efqm) Business Excellence Model, J Dodangeh Aug 2011

Assessment System Based On Fuzzy Scoring In European Foundation For Quality Management (Efqm) Business Excellence Model, J Dodangeh

Javad Dodangeh

There are a few popular business excellence models that provide standard criteria against which an organization can measure its performances. European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) is the most popular one. The organizational self-assessment process is an admissible system in the area of Total Quality Management (TQM). Most specialists concur to the description of self-assessment that is presented by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). However, the current selfassessment methods in EFQM model have some drawbacks and problems which are scoring in these methods influenced by experts’ judgment and thus, are subjective. Furthermore, these methods cannot consider the empirical …

Designing Fuzzy Multi Criteria Decision Making Model For Best Selection Of Areas For Improvement In Efqm, J Dodangeh

Javad Dodangeh

In a growingly competitive business environment, numerous organizations adopt the total quality management (TQM) approach, to struggle for business excellence. To monitor the progress towards business excellence, thousands of organizations across the world use self-assessment on a regular basis. There are a few popular business excellence models, that provide standard criteria against which an organization can measure its performances. European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) is the most popular ones. The EFQM Excellence Model was introduced at the beginning of 1992, as the framework for assessing organizations for the European Quality Award. It is now the most widely used organizational …

An Improved Ant Colony System For A Real Time Routing Strategy, Hannaneh Rashidi-Bajgan, Taravatsadat Nehzati, Napsiah Ismail

Hannaneh Rashidi-Bajgan

There is a large number of literatures about routing and dispatching plans for automated guided vehicle system (AGVS), however a small fraction of these works dealt with dynamic characteristic of this kind of scheduling problems. Current paper surveys a real time strategy to responding requests for supposed material handling system in the plant. We arranged this designing on a preplanned system where all data are known before the constructing routes. An improved ant colony optimization (ACO) is applied in order to find the shortest route path as new solicitations happened. We explore ACO initially for static version of the problem, …

The Optimization Of The Threshold For The Preventive Maintenance Actions In A Condition-Based Maintenance Program Via Dynamic Programming Approach, Kamran Shahanaghi, Mehdi Jafarian, Majid Beikverdi, Zeinab Nezhadbiglari Jan 2010

The Optimization Of The Threshold For The Preventive Maintenance Actions In A Condition-Based Maintenance Program Via Dynamic Programming Approach, Kamran Shahanaghi, Mehdi Jafarian, Majid Beikverdi, Zeinab Nezhadbiglari

Mehdi Jafarian

The last step of a condition based maintenance (CBM) program is maintenance decision-making. This step is the most important and the most critical stage of maintenance for executive personnel and management whom work on taking maintenance actions. This decision making would be done according to certain criteria such as risk, cost, reliability and availability. This paper considered a dynamic programming model to optimization of the threshold for the preventive maintenance actions in a condition-based maintenance program. The basis of this modeling is the average cost of maintenance actions, failures and exchanges. In this paper, we improved the memory of the …

A New Multiobjective Modeling In Distribution Center Location Problem, Mehdi Jafarian, Azizolah Jafari, Mehdi Sharif-Yazdi, Seyed Javad Hosseininejad Jan 2009

A New Multiobjective Modeling In Distribution Center Location Problem, Mehdi Jafarian, Azizolah Jafari, Mehdi Sharif-Yazdi, Seyed Javad Hosseininejad

Mehdi Jafarian

As has been mentioned in the literature, distribution centers location problem (DCLP) is a multiobjective problem. Cost (or distance) minimization is the primary objective in this area. While significance of each relation between a distribution center (DC) and a customer/retailer is different, it has not been considered seriously. By adapting available facility and new facility concepts of the multifacility location problem with costumer/retailer and a DC respectively, a utility function as the second objective based on the importance has been used. These importances are in decision maker (DM) s’ mind which should be quantified to be of use for modeling …

Lexicographic Goal Programming Approach For Portfolio Optimization, Mehdi Jafarian, Azizolah Jafari Jan 2008

Lexicographic Goal Programming Approach For Portfolio Optimization, Mehdi Jafarian, Azizolah Jafari

Mehdi Jafarian

The mean variance model of portfolio optimization that was introduced by Markowitz includes two conflicted objective functions. These two criteria, risk and return does not encompass all of the information about investment. Information like liquidity, annual dividends and performance in later years. Thus portfolio selection is a usual multi-objective decision making (MODM) problem. This paper will investigate the optimum portfolio for a private investor, taking into account 6 criteria. It is well known that GP, based on preemptive priorities and target values, has been successful in solving MODM problems. In this paper we classify the MODM model with consideration of …

Ranking Maintenance Strategies From The Point Of View Of Lean Thinking: Group Decision Making Model By Using Borda Method, Mehdi Jafarian, Kamran Shahanaghi, Aliakbar Faegh, Majid Samsami

Mehdi Jafarian

The selection of maintenance strategies is a typical multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. There have been taken different maintenance strategies in order to obtaining optimistic maintenance strategy. In this paper we aim to rank different maintenance strategies from the point of view of lean thinking. After obtaining information from experts whose expertness is in field of maintenance, in order to ranking these strategies we form a group decision making model and solve this model by using Borda method. Finally we analyze its results
