Accelerating Manufacturing Decisions Using Bayesian Optimization: An Optimization And Prediction Perspective, Taofeeq Olajire Jan 2023

Accelerating Manufacturing Decisions Using Bayesian Optimization: An Optimization And Prediction Perspective, Taofeeq Olajire

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Manufacturing is a promising technique for producing complex and custom-made parts with a high degree of precision. It can also provide us with desired materials and products with specified properties. To achieve that, it is crucial to find out the optimum point of process parameters that have a significant impact on the properties and quality of the final product. Unfortunately, optimizing these parameters can be challenging due to the complex and nonlinear nature of the underlying process, which becomes more complicated when there are conflicting objectives, sometimes with multiple goals. Furthermore, experiments are usually costly, time-consuming, and require expensive materials, …

Improvement Of Geometric Quality Inspection And Process Efficiency In Additive Manufacturing, Yu Jin May 2020

Improvement Of Geometric Quality Inspection And Process Efficiency In Additive Manufacturing, Yu Jin

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Additive manufacturing (AM) has been known for its ability of producing complex geometries in flexible production environments. In recent decades, it has attracted increasing attention and interest of different industrial sectors. However, there are still some technical challenges hindering the wide application of AM. One major barrier is the limited dimensional accuracy of AM produced parts, especially for industrial sectors such as aerospace and biomedical engineering, where high geometric accuracy is required. Nevertheless, traditional quality inspection techniques might not perform well due to the complexity and flexibility of AM fabricated parts. Another issue, which is brought up from the growing …

Sustainability Analysis For New Technologies Of Biofuels And Additive Manufacturing, Nelson A. Granda Marulanda Aug 2017

Sustainability Analysis For New Technologies Of Biofuels And Additive Manufacturing, Nelson A. Granda Marulanda

Doctoral Dissertations

This work is a compendium of different sustainability analysis on new technologies. The first chapter performed a Life Cycle Analysis of a biofuel process where pine woodchips are used to create SynGas. The study was done using a 10 tons gasifier, the mass balance of the reaction and an input/output analysis. All the data obtained was input into a freeware LCA software and the results were compared to the use of regular produced natural gas. The second chapter creates a benchmark of energy intensity and presents a case using binder jetting technology. Different Additive Manufacturing technologies energy intensity was reported, …
