The Effect Of Process Parameters And Surface Condition On Bond Strength Between Additively Manufactured Components And Polymer Substrates, Bharat Bhushan Chivukula Dec 2016

The Effect Of Process Parameters And Surface Condition On Bond Strength Between Additively Manufactured Components And Polymer Substrates, Bharat Bhushan Chivukula

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Additive patching is a process in which printers with multiple axes deposit molten material onto a pre-defined surface to form a bond. Studying the effect of surface roughness and process parameters selected for printing auxiliary part on the bond helps in improving the strength of the final component. Particularly, the influence of surface roughness, as established by adhesion theory, has not been evaluated in the framework of additive manufacturing (AM). A full factorial design of experiments with five replications was conducted on two levels and three factors, viz., layer thickness, surface roughness, and raster angle to examine the underlying effects …

Process Improvement By Lean Thinking In Trucking Industry, Abhiram Reddy Ramasahayam Jan 2016

Process Improvement By Lean Thinking In Trucking Industry, Abhiram Reddy Ramasahayam

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

Manufacturing industries with complex production systems are struggling with designing optimal process to increase throughput. Companies will require high amount of labor and process improvement resources to sustain growth and delivery quality products to its customers. A chain of value added activities when designed and deployed with help of lean based methodologies can create high efficiency process. In this paper we have studies and implemented value added process based on the lean manufacturing methodologies which was adapted on the shop floor.

In many traditional truck body production industries have facing many problems like low production rate, big lead times, material …

Gyroscope Assembly Process Improvement Analysis, Ian Douglass, Juan Ulises Saucedo Mar 2013

Gyroscope Assembly Process Improvement Analysis, Ian Douglass, Juan Ulises Saucedo

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

The gyro is a fundamental portion of many assemblies that Company S, a directional drilling company, manufactures. The gyro assembly is a highly sensitive and complex process, and it was paramount to establish efficiency and quality guidelines to base management decisions. The first guideline succeeded by increasing throughput by means of a simulation using ProModel. Next, non-value and value added activities were identified through a value stream map. Lastly, a database was developed in order to capture high integrity quality control data, or key performance indicators, such as, throughput, first-pass inspection yields at every test performed, and defects found. This …

Process Improvements For Establishing Cmmi Certification At Company Xyz, Megan Farrell Nov 2012

Process Improvements For Establishing Cmmi Certification At Company Xyz, Megan Farrell

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

CMMI stands for Capability Maturity Model Integration and is an enterprise-wide Process-Improvement model that provides a set of best practices that addresses productivity, performance, costs, and stakeholder satisfaction. This improvement model is generally used in computer software companied and not only does it improve their processes, but many contracts will only be awarded with those companies who are CMMI certified, so it is very important for Company XYZ. This goal of this project was to help improve the CMMI efforts at Company XYZ in 4 of the 20 distinct processes areas to attain a CMMI Maturity Level of 3. Improvement …
