Electrochemical Syntheses Of Nanomaterials And Small Molecules For Electrolytic Hydrogen Production, Jia-Qi Wei, Xiao-Dong Chen, Shu-Zhou Li

Journal of Electrochemistry

Hydrogen is a clean, efficient, renewable energy resource and the most promising alternative to fossil fuels for future carbon-neutral energy supply. Therefore, sustainable hydrogen production is highly attractive and urgently demanded, especially via water electrolysis that has clean, abundant precursors and zero emission. However, current water electrolysis is hindered by the sluggish kinetics and low cost/energy efficiency of both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In this regard, electrochemical synthesis offers prospects to raise the efficiency and benefit of water electrolysis by fabricating advanced electrocatalysts and providing more efficient/value-adding co-electrolysis alternatives. It is an eco-friendly and facile …

Electrochemiluminescence Imaging Hydrogen Evolution Reaction On Single Platinum Nanoparticles Using A Bipolar Nanoelectrode Array, Xiang Qin, Zhong-Qiu Li, Jian-Bin Pan, Jian Li, Kang Wang, Xing-Hua Xia

Journal of Electrochemistry

A high-density (5.7 × 108 cm-2) nanoelectrode array with the electrode diameter of 200 nm and the interelectrode distance of 450 nm were fabricated. The nanoelectrode array consisted of gold nanowires embedded in a porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) matrix, having regular nanoelectrode distribution and highly uniform nanoelectrode size. The gold nanoelectrode array was used as a closed bipolar nanoelectrode array combined with electrochemiluminescence (ECL) method to map the electrocatalytic activity of platinum nanoparticles toward hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by modifying the catalysts on single nanoelectrodes. Results show that HER on single bipolar nanoelectrodes could be imaged with the sub-micrometer …

A Facile Route To Synthesize Pt-Wo3 Nanosheets With Enhanced Electrochemical Performance For Her, Peng-Jie Jiang, Yi Lv, Chang-Miao Chen, Hong-Cheng He, Yong Cai, Ming Zhang

Journal of Electrochemistry

Platinum-tungsten trioxide (Pt-WO3) nanosheets were synthesized on nickel foams (NFs) directly. As great conductive networks, NFs substrates could greatly improve the electrode performance of WO3. The modified platinum nanoparticles not only enhanced the electron transformation of catalysts, but also increased the active sites for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Pt-WO3/NF revealed a better catalytic activity than WO3/NFs with a smaller Tafel slope (80 mV·dec-1) and a lower overpotential of 72 mV at the current density of 10 mA·cm-2. In addition, Pt-WO3/NF showed great durability and stability during …

The Influence Of Surface Diffusion Of Adsorbed Intermediate On Hydrogen Evolution Reaction At Pt/Nafion Composite Electrodes, Wei-Yi Tu, Lei Su, Wen-Jun Liu, Bing-Liang Wu

Journal of Electrochemistry

The decrease of over_potential of hydrogen evolution reaction at Pt black powder/Nafion microelectrode, comparing that of the Pt microdisk/Nafion electrode, was evident from the polarization curves of the Pt microdisk/Nafion electrode, platinized Pt micrdisk/Nafion electrode and Pt black powder/Nafion microelectrode. It is also evidenced by a plane Pt electrode with an additional free Pt surface. The surface diffusion and the surface recombination reaction of the adsorbed intermediate at the free surface of the Pt particles were supposed. It is an additional reaction path that induced the decrease of the concentration of the adsorbed intermediate. Thereby, the over_potential decreased.

Hydrogen Evolution Reaction On Nanocrystalline Co-Mo/Ni Composite-Coated Electrodes, Weizeng Yu, Jie Ma, Yiming Chu, Huizhe Zhu, Hongjie Wang, Shuncheng Liu

Journal of Electrochemistry

The electrochemical behaviours of the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) at electrodes prepared by composite coating of nanocrytstalline Co-Mo alloy particles formed by ball milling on nickel base has been sludied by using sleady-state polarization and ac impedance techiu ques. The microstructure and the size of the nanocrystals of Co- Mo alloy and the morphology of the composite-coating surface of the electrodes are measured by XRD, TEM and SEM. Results show that the nanocrystalline Co-Mo alloys prepared by high energy ball milling has high electrocatalytic activity for HER. The electrocatalytic activity for the HER is enhanced and the energy of activation for HER …
