Transient Electrochemical Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopic Study In Electrochemical Reduction Of P-Nitrothiophenol, Yun Ling, Jing Tang, Guo-Kun Liu, Cheng Zong

Journal of Electrochemistry

P-nitrothiophenol (PNTP) is one of the most common probe molecules studied by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The research in electrochemical reduction behavior of PNTP will help understanding the mechanism for the nitrobenzene reduction. In this paper, we used transient electrochemical surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TEC-SERS) to study the SERS of PNTP with cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry on gold electrodes. The results show that the TEC-SERS provide a time resolution that equals the transient electrochemical methods, and we concluded that the reaction was so quick that we did not observe the spectral information of intermediate species described in the literatures with a …

Complex Coordination Silver Electrocrystallization Mechanism On Glassy Carbon Electrode Surface, Shuai-Shuai Huang, Cheng Liu, Lei Jin, Fang-Zu Yang, Zhong-Qun Tian, Shao-Min. Zhou

Journal of Electrochemistry

Cyclic voltammetry and potential step methods were successfully used to study the electrochemical crystallization mechanism of silver deposition on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in the practical cyanide-free silver plating electrolyte containing composite complexing agents. Scharifker-Hill (SH) theory was used to fitting the experimental data. The results showed that the electrodeposition of silver is a diffusion controlled irreversible electrode process according to three-dimensional instantaneous nucleation mechanism. When the step potential shifted from -750 mV to -825 mV, the peak deposition current Im was increased, while the induced nucleation time tm shortened. The calculated kinetic parameters showed that the diffusion coefficient (D) …

Platinum Hollow Nanospheres With Different Sizes: Controllable Synthesis And Electrocatalytic Oxidation Toward Methanol, Xuan Lin, Mei-Qin Cheng, Zhong-Jin Shang, Ting Xiong, Xian-Tu Zhang, Wei Tian, Jian-Yun Lin, Qi-Ling Zhong, Bin Ren

Journal of Electrochemistry

The selenium (Se) templates and hollow platinum (Pthollow) nanospheres with different sizes were controllably synthesized by adjusting the concentration of sodium dodecyl sulphonate (SDSN) (CSDSN, μmol·L-1) which was used as a surfactant. Accordingly, the Pthollow nanospheres modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode (Pthollow/GC) was prepared. The morphology and composition of Pthollow nanospheres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The electrocatalytic activities of Pthollow/GC and electrodeposited Pt nanoparticles modified glassy carbon electrode (Ptnano/GC) toward methanol oxidation …

Cyclic Voltammetric And In-Situ Ftir Spectroscopic Studies Of Adsorption And Reduction Of No On Electrode Of Pt Nanoparticles, Qian Cheng, Yan-Xia Jiang, Dong-Mei Zeng, Shi-Gang Sun

Journal of Electrochemistry

Adsorption and reduction of NO on electrode of Pt nanoparticles in acid solutions were studied by means of cyclic voltammetry(CV) and in-situ FTIR spectroscopy. The results indicated that the reduction of NO is a complicated process including the adsorption of NO on electrode surface. Two types of surface-bonded NO were determined on Pt nanoparticles. The weakly adsorbed NO was reduced between 0.6 V and-0.05 V,which yielded nitrous oxide(N2O) and ammonium(NH+4) as products;while the strongly bonded NO was reduced at more negative potentials between-0.05V and-0.15V,producing only NH4+ species.

The nanoporous gold(NPG) electrodes with uniform pore sizes and ligaments were prepared by using a simple dealloying method. The as-prepared NPG showed high catalytic activity towards the oxidation of formic acid and formaldehyde. After tiny amount of platinum was deposited onto the NPG substrate, not only the structure stability of NPG was greatly improved, but also the Pt-Au bimetallic catalysts displayed the better catalytic activity and the stronger poison resistance towards the electrooxidation of small organic molecules than the bulk platinum due to synergistic effect between Au and Pt compositions.

Large scale vertically aligned carbon nanotubes(ACNTs) with uniform length and diameter were prepared by the pyrolysis of iron(Ⅱ) phthalocyanine at low pressure. The ACNTs were activated by electrolyte-activation,acid-activation or electrochemical activation. The performance of the capacitor based on activated ACNTs was characterized by cyclic voltammograms which was of rectangular shape, impedence spectroscopy in which the phase is above 80° and the result specific capacitance was 16~32 F/g,which suggest that the ACNTs are the promising material for the supercapacitor.

Study On The Electrogeneration And Properties Of Superoxide Ion In Aprotic Media By Using Carbon Nanotubes Powder Microelectrode, Ying-Liang Wei, Chen Shao, Hui Feng

Journal of Electrochemistry

Multi-wall carbon nanotubes are filled in the cavity at the tip of a microelectrode to form a carbon nanotubes powder microelectrode(CNTs-PME).The CNTs-PME is used to study the electrochemical reduction of oxygen in aprotic media. It is a nearly reversible redox process of the O2/O·-2 couple at the CNTs-PME in the dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO)solution. The heterogeneous electron transfer rate constant(ks)can be measured by steady-state voltammogram and the result is 9.8 10-3cm /s.As a weak oxidant, the reaction of O·-2 with epinephrine was studied by cyclic voltammetry.Additionally, the reaction of O·-2 with benzoic acid was also discussed in detail.

Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectra Of Cytosine Adsorbed On A Roughened Gold Electrode, Yuan-Fei Wu, Jian-Feng Li, De-Yin Wu, Bin Ren, Zhong-Qun Tian

Journal of Electrochemistry

Cytosine adsorbed on a roughened gold electrode has been investigated by using electrochemical cyclic voltammetry and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The results indicate that cytosine was adsorbed on the Au electrode in a perpendicular orientation via the N3 position. As the maximum enhancement of ring breathing mode appears at negative potentials compared with other modes, both the electromagnetic enhancement and the charge transfer mechanism were considered to contribute to the SERS intensity. The binding interaction between cytosine and the gold electrode was weakened when the potential was negatively moved. The result also indicates that the SERS technique can be used …

Journal of Electrochemistry

An improved technique for fabrication of carbon nanotube array electrodes has been proposed in this work. Firstly, carbon nanotubes (CNs) array electrodes were prepared by combsination of Chemical Vapor Decomposition (CVD) method and sputtering techniques in anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane. The CNs/AAO was immersed into HF solution to remove the barrier layer. Controlling the immersing time, the CNs array electrodes with different length contacted with electrolyte can be prepared. The morphology of CNs array electrodes was observed by SEM. The electrochemical properties of CNs array electrodes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammetric curves of …
